PRINCIPAL'S REPORT

As Term 1 draws to a close, we reflect on a vibrant and successful start to the 2025 school year at Leeming SHS Education Support Centre. We warmly welcome all families, especially those joining our community for the first time, and congratulate our Year 7 students on an excellent beginning to their high school journey. Their confidence has grown each week, and seeing their personalities shine as they settle into their new environment has been a pleasure.

This term has been filled with a wide range of engaging programs and activities, including beach swimming, paddle boarding, Year 12 Ball, Harmony Day, Year 8 and 10 camps, the Western Australian Symphony Orchestra concert, the Bush Ranger program, and various community-based learning opportunities. Our senior students have also participated in work experience and TAFE programs, strengthening their skills and independence.

Our student leadership group has made a strong start, proudly representing the school, upholding our USTAR values, and participating in leadership development through WADSA and school-based initiatives. Their enthusiasm and teamwork have been commendable.

We have been pleased to welcome several new staff members to Leeming SHS ESC this year. Mrs Vani Sambhara has joined our leadership team as Deputy Principal. Bradley Dusting has joined our Chaplaincy team alongside Simon Fenby, supporting student wellbeing and pastoral care on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. We also welcomed Natalie Felstead, one of our Year 9 teachers and education assistants, Jenna Little, Owen Holden, and Tina Darlington.

This term, we have farewelled two valued staff members. Brett Rodoreda has left to pursue further study. He will be greatly missed for his calm, friendly nature and exceptional ability to unlock the potential in our students. Jonnine Kaiser has retired after more than 15 years of dedicated service as an education assistant at Leeming SHS ESC. She will be fondly remembered for her remarkable passion for art and extraordinary talent in nurturing every student's creative spirit. We sincerely thank them both for their contributions to our school community and wish them all the very best in their next adventures.

We are fortunate to be guided by a collaborative School Board. The Board meets twice a term to discuss the school’s objectives, priorities and policies.

2025 Board members include:

Parent Representatives – Olivia Sjahrir (Board Chair), Sheila Koh, Lydia Jiang, Medline Manhanzva

Staff Representatives – Kerryn Coles, Emma Gage, Keran Davies (Principal) and Carol Rodoreda (Manager of Corporate Services)

Community Representative – Dawn Barker

Looking ahead to Term 2, we are excited to host our annual Pop-Up Shops, where students showcase their enterprise projects. We also look forward to New Beginnings to an Old Story, an annual event that forms part of our Reconciliation Action Plan. This celebration of Aboriginal culture provides an opportunity for the whole school community to come together to embrace, acknowledge, educate and celebrate the knowledge and contributions of First Nations People.

Thank you to all staff, students, and families for contributing to a successful start to the school year. We wish everyone a safe and restful holiday break and look forward to another rewarding term.
