- UPCOMING EVENTS
Term 2 has been a wonderful celebration of culture and community, with students and families engaging in a number of vibrant events alongside our partner school, Leeming SHS. These events continue to be a highlight on our school calendar, reflecting the welcoming, inclusive, and connected community we strive to build.
EXPO 2025
We were thrilled to welcome 84 families to this year’s EXPO, where 27 service providers showcased opportunities across employment, TAFE, therapy, social and community participation, and NDIS Partners in the Community. Families engaged in valuable conversations about post-school options, including employment, leisure, sport, recreation, therapy and support services.
A standout moment was hearing from Dawn Barker, a past parent, who shared her daughter’s inspiring journey – including her recent milestone of receiving Long Service Leave after 10 years with Good Samaritan Enterprises. Former student Joe Gibson also captivated the audience with stories of his post-school pathway and the exciting ventures he’s now pursuing. These heartfelt speeches powerfully illustrated the impact of our collaborative approach at Leeming ESC in shaping positive futures.
A sincere thank you to Ms FP and Mrs Barbato for organising this important community event.
Reconciliation Action Plan
As part of our ongoing commitment to our Reconciliation Action Plan, New Beginnings to an Old Story has become a significant and meaningful annual event now in its sixth year. This celebration continues to deepen our understanding and appreciation of First Nations culture.
This year, students engaged in rich learning experiences with Bilya Booladarlung, Indigenous Tours WA, Djirrily Dreaming, and No Limits Sports. These experiences offered powerful insights into the past, present, and future of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and further strengthened our cultural awareness and respect.
A heartfelt thank you to Mrs Vann and the organising committee for your passion, dedication, and leadership in bringing this important event to life.
In addition, National Reconciliation Week (27 May – 3 June) is a significant part of our Reconciliation Action Plan and is celebrated annually through a range of classroom-based learning experiences and a whole-school poster competition. These activities provide students with the opportunity to reflect on the meaning of reconciliation and to express their understanding in creative and meaningful ways. This year, classroom posters explored the theme Bridging Now to Next, highlighting the ongoing connection between the past, present, and future. Congratulations to our class winners of the poster competition: Middle School - ESC 5 and ESC 6, Senior School - ESC 1, and ESC 4. Your thoughtful and creative contributions captured the spirit of reconciliation beautifully.
Culture and Community Assembly
On Thursday, 19 June, we joined Leeming SHS for a special inclusive assembly celebrating culture and community. We were proud to see Jake Lewis receive the Citizenship Award in recognition of his contributions to both the school and local community.
Annual Pop-Up Shops
Friday, 13 June saw the return of our much-loved Pop-Up Shops event, where students proudly sold a variety of creative products developed as part of their Business Enterprise programs. This event provides a valuable opportunity for students to build work-capability skills such as creativity, teamwork, planning, problem-solving, and initiative.
We were delighted to welcome students from West Leeming Primary School, as well as a fantastic turnout of families, Leeming SHS students, and staff. The day was buzzing with excitement and showcased the incredible talents and entrepreneurial spirit of our students. Thank you to all who supported this event.
Soccer Carnival
The final event for the term will be the much-anticipated Annual Soccer Carnival on Friday, 4 July. Excitement is building as students gear up for the highly anticipated rematch against the staff! It promises to be a fun and energetic way to finish off a fantastic term.
Farewell and Welcome
This term we farewelled our School Chaplain, Simon Fenby, and extended a warm welcome to our new full-time Chaplain, Bradley Dusting. Bradley has already made a wonderful impression, building positive relationships with students and supporting a range of social connection initiatives across the school.
We also welcomed Dane Silcock to our team this term. Dane has joined our Workplace Learning program and will also be assisting at the front office on Fridays. We are excited to have Dane on board and know he will be a great asset to our school community.
At the end of this term, we farewell our wonderful Manager of Corporate Services, Carol Rodoreda. Carol has been the steady, reliable heartbeat of Leeming SHS ESC for the past 24 years. Her contribution has been invaluable, and she will be greatly missed. We thank Carol for her incredible service and wish her all the very best for her retirement.

Thank you, everyone for a great term and have a wonderful holiday break.
This term was filled with big events, such as New Beginnings to an Old Story, the School Expo, Pop-up Shops, Grandparents' Morning Tea, and Year 9 and Bush Rangers camps. A huge thank you to all the family, carers, and friends who were able to attend these special events. Thank you to the staff and students for all their hard work behind the scenes.
The board warmly welcomes our new community representative, Mandy Reiher. Mandy comes with 12 years of experience as an Education Assistant and has set up work skills programs at both Kensington and Kenwick schools. She also works for Good Sammies and is currently leading a team to set up their Dare to Dream program, which is scheduled to launch in August.
Our board meetings had some exciting presentations, starting with students Issac and Jake who shared their experience with their TAFE courses and journey from years 10 to 12. As well as another presentation from the 2025 Student Leaders, who talked about the WADSA leadership program - Learn to Lead, which is funded by Telethon. Mr Calasse and a few Year 9 students presented the Career Taster programs they have been attending at TAFE, exploring different industries such as hospitality, hairdressing, and building and construction. Bush Rangers students gave us updates on their program with Perth Zoo called Habitat to Wildlife, as well as their project of building ‘Quenda Hotels’ for the local wildlife around the school.
A big thank you to Louisa FP and her amazing team for providing information and feedback about the Transitions and Pathway program, including the My Plan process and what parents and students should expect. Thank you to the Transition and Pathways team, as they go above and beyond for our kids and families, finding suitable work experience and opportunities that could potentially lead to further employment after high school.
This term, we have also completed our partnership with Dianella Secondary ESC as part of the Quality Teaching Lead School and look forward to our new partnership with Canning Vale ESC. We spent some time reviewing past surveys in preparation for new surveys, which will go out later this year, and updated some capital and minor works that are in progress.
We farewell board member and the school's MCS, Carol Rodoreda. Carol will be on leave in semester 2 and will transition into retirement from 2026. She has been a vital member of our board and school, spanning over 24 years. Thank you, Carol, for all your contributions to our kids, families, and staff. You will be greatly missed!
And just like that, term 2 has come to an end! Have a wonderful break!
Olivia Sjahrir

This term, our PBS focus has continued to centre around the explicit teaching of expected behaviours in our weekly PBS lessons. Students have continued to build their understanding of the USTAR values through classroom discussions, role plays, and real-life school-based scenarios.
Unity- We include others Respect- We are kind to ourselves and others Unity- We cooperate and share with others Self-responsibility- We are on time and organised for lessons Teamwork- We collaborate with others
|
At our ESC assemblies, we’ve continued to celebrate students and staff through the USTAR behaviour and attendance raffles and the milestone USTAR point wristbands. Due to the amazing effort from students, many are now reaching milestones quickly, so we’ve introduced additional coloured wristbands to recognise achievements at 50, 100, 200, 300, 500, 750, and 1000 points (see the image below!). Each milestone is acknowledged and celebrated at assembly.
Congratulations to ESC 17 and ESC 15 for winning the Tarak Award at the Week 5 and 10 ESC Assembly for demonstrating the value of Unity and Self-responsibility.
The PBS committee has also been working behind the scenes this term to strengthen restorative practices across the school and ensure consistency in behaviour language that aligns with our PBS values and philosophy. This ongoing work aims to build a supportive and respectful school environment for all students.
Keep an eye out for more student celebrations and PBS updates in Term 3!
The PBS Team
Ina Dorsheimer, Lachie Frewer, Keran Davies, Maitlin Cutts, Emma Mackay, Tom Bakowski, Lucas Sukadana, Natalie Felstead, Deb Brayne and Della Chamberlain.
Term 2 has been a very eventful term for our school! Students met and played footy with some of the Eagles players, our year 7s asked some thoughtful questions, and took plenty of pictures with the team members! They also got up close with different reptiles as part of our Bush Rangers incursion, where they learnt about our native animals and their habitat, diet, and life expectancy. Students also learnt about different ways to be safe while riding a bike through the RAC bicycle safety incursion.
New Beginnings To An Old Story was a well-loved event which took place over Reconciliation Week. Students learnt about Aboriginal history and culture as well as different Dreamtime stories. Some were brave enough to perform some Aboriginal dances in front of the whole school along with the Bilya Booladalung Dance team. As a class, ESC 9 worked together to create a poster with this year’s theme, ‘Bridging Now to Next’, to commemorate Reconciliation Week.

The year 7s were very involved in preparing for our annual Pop-Up Shops, where we handmade over 100 pom-pom creatures and keychains! Our cleverly named ‘Pom-tastic’ pom-poms were a huge hit with all age groups, with most of our creations being sold to our eager customers.
For literacy narrative comprehension, we have been viewing Charlie and the Chocolate Factory as well as listening to the audiobook version and answering questions based on the text. Students have enjoyed learning about the different characters, describing their character traits, and looking up definitions for unfamiliar words.
In maths, students have been looking at telling the time on analogue clocks. We have practiced understanding the difference between the minute and hour hand, as well as telling time to the hour, half-hour, quarter-hour, 5-minute intervals, and to the minute.
As we come to the end of this semester, we look forward to the excursion to Samson House in week 10 as well as the soccer carnival on the last day of the term. We can’t wait to see what the rest of the year holds for our class!
Mrs Mary Shaji.
Students were busy creating some fantastic products to sell at our annual school Pop-up Shops that included earrings, keychains, pet rocks, paintings, and cloud dough! We sold so much stock, and every student participated so well in the designing, making, and sales of each of our products. A big well done to all our students for such a great effort.
During literacy this term, students have been engaging in their Direct Instruction and Emergent Literacy programs in the mornings, along with Spelling Mastery in class as a targeted spelling intervention. It is clear from engaging weekly in this program that our students are making good progress with their spelling ability. We have been reading the novel ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’ in class this term, and students have enjoyed engaging in shared reading and comprehension activities and making comparisons with the text and the movie.
We started our CBL program this term, with the goal being for students to gain appropriate community skills such as engaging with people in our community, being part of a group, and safe road crossing. The program has also helped students further their functional maths skills by using real money and making real transactions, with the support of staff.
Some of our students have been enjoying getting outdoors with our Bush Ranger program and were lucky enough to attend the Bush Ranger Camp in Geraldton, where they took part in a range of activities, including the Kalbarri Sky Walk and Nature's Window, Damper making, Greenough Wildlife Park, and rock climbing!
We have had a great semester of learning, and we are looking forward to what is to come in Term 3!
Have a wonderful holiday break, and we look forward to welcoming back our students on Monday, 21st of July.
Love from the team of ESC6.
Term 2 has been a fantastic and action-packed time for our Year 7 students. Now well and truly settled into high school life, they’ve shown enthusiasm, creativity, and teamwork in everything they have done.
A standout moment this term was the Pop-Up Shop. Our students poured energy and creativity into making products, designing eye-catching posters, and setting up what was arguably the best-looking stall of all! Their efforts paid off, with the stress balls completely selling out! We're proud to share that approximately $100 will be donated to the RSPCA thanks to their hard work.
In the classroom, students have been captivated by our chapter book of the term, The Enchanted Wood. The accompanying comprehension activities have sparked great discussions and deepened their love for reading.
We were also lucky to welcome special guests from the West Coast Eagles. Their visit was a real highlight—students enjoyed a fun kick-around session and were thrilled to receive a signed hat and poster, which now take pride of place in our classroom.
The Push-Up Challenge brought a healthy dose of fitness and fun to our days, with students enthusiastically participating in sit-ups, squats, planks, tricep dips, and more. Their commitment to the challenge has inspired us to continue with a class exercise program for the rest of the year.
Academically, we’ve explored a variety of engaging topics. In HASS, students learned about the differences between families past and present and had the opportunity to delve into their family trees. In Maths, we focused on telling time and reading clocks, while in Health, students learned important lessons about protective behaviours and identifying safe and safer strangers.
It’s been a fantastic term full of learning, growth, and fun. We’re incredibly proud of this lovely bunch of students and can’t wait to see what Term 3 brings!

Term 2 has been packed with engaging learning experiences, fun events, and new opportunities to build on the skills we’ve been working on all year. While we’ve missed having Mrs Payne with us after she broke her ankle earlier this term, we’ve been lucky to welcome Miss Ioannakis into the classroom. She’s been a fantastic addition to our team, and the students have enjoyed working with her.
This term, ESC8 has been busy both in and out of the classroom. We kicked off our Community-Based Lifeskills (CBL) program, where we’ve been using public transport to access Bull Creek Central. This has given us the chance to practise our travel training and appropriate community behaviour while learning about healthcare and library services in our local area.
We’ve taken part in several exciting events, including a Bush Rangers incursion where we learnt about native Australian animals, Go Rainbow Day to celebrate IDAHOBIT Day, and New Beginnings to an Old Story, a cultural experience filled with Aboriginal storytelling, performances and activities. During Reconciliation Week, we created a class poster for a whole-school competition, showcasing our understanding and respect for Aboriginal culture and history.
ESC8 students have also been showing off their enterprise skills through our Pop-Up Shop, selling Silly Putty and Silly Looms that we made ourselves. With teamwork and great marketing, we made a total profit of $350.40! The class decided to donate part of the earnings to Epilepsy WA, and we’ll put the rest towards our end-of-year excursion.
We also had some well-deserved fun this term, including PJ Day with hot chocolate and an All-Abilities Gala Day excursion that promoted inclusive participation in sports and games.
It’s been another amazing term of growth, learning, and laughter. We can’t wait to see what Term 3 brings!
Mrs Mackay.

Our classroom has been buzzing with creativity, curiosity, and collaboration as students engaged in a range of exciting activities and learning experiences.
One of the major highlights this term was our Enterprise Project in preparation for the upcoming Pop-Up Shop. The students worked together to brainstorm and vote on what products to create and sell. After much discussion and plenty of teamwork, they decided to make candles! As a class, we came up with a name for our enterprise and had so much fun exploring different scents and colours for each candle. It was a hands-on experience that allowed everyone to express their creativity and decision-making skills.
We also took part in the New Beginnings to an Old Story event, which was a joyful and memorable occasion for our students. Students had a blast participating in Dot Painting to create a beautiful poster for the Bridging the Gap competition. This artistic project sparked thoughtful discussions about culture, storytelling, and community.
In Community-Based Learning (CBL), students took big steps toward independence as they learnt how to use public transport to travel safely to Bull Creek Central. They thoroughly enjoyed their trips, including visits to the Bull Creek Library, where they explored books and the local environment. Being out in the community helped develop their confidence, life skills, and independence in real-world settings.
Term 2 has truly been filled with laughter, learning, and creativity. We are so proud of how each student contributed to our shared success and joy in the classroom.

Wishing everyone a restful and happy holiday. We look forward to more adventures in Term 3!
Warm regards, The ESC 7 Team
ESC17 has had an awesome second term this year, filled with laughter, excitement, hard work, and amazing teamwork.
This term has been packed with highlights. Earlier in the term, our Year 9 students attended camp at Ern Halliday, which was a great success. Everyone enjoyed the chance to try new activities, build friendships, and challenge themselves in a fun and supportive environment.
As part of our business enterprise this semester, we created the business “Toast Malones” where we’ve been busy making delicious toasties every Wednesday for staff. The students have done an incredible job preparing, cooking, and serving the toasties with fantastic enthusiasm and professionalism.
Our efforts all came together for our Pop-Up Shop stall, which was a huge success! We completely sold out of all our products, including key rings, coasters, magnets, and sun catchers. The students worked hard to create high-quality items, and it was wonderful to see their pride in their work and the positive feedback from customers.
In addition to all our enterprise activities, we have been out and about on CBL trips, including a really successful visit to Cockburn Gateways. Students practised important community and life skills, and it was fantastic to see their confidence and independence growing in real-world settings.
We were also so proud of ESC17 for doing an outstanding job running the Week 10 assembly. The students showed excellent teamwork and leadership skills, helping the event run smoothly and keeping the audience engaged.
Everyone in ESC17 has been filled with laughter and excitement for the year ahead, and it’s shaping up to be an incredible journey together.

Mr Calasse and ESC17
ESC 12 - NATALIE FELSTEAD/POONAM PAWARNI
Another term done and dusted! It’s been a busy and exciting semester, filled with memorable experiences—from camp and TAFE tasters to a visit from West Coast Eagles players and the much-loved Pop-Up Shop.
Year 9 Camp
In week 3, the Year 9s headed off to Hillary’s for a three-day camp. The journey began with a bang (and plenty of ABBA sing-alongs on the bus!). Once there, students participated in a range of hands-on and thrilling activities, including the flying fox, caving, excursions to AQWA and Caversham, and, of course, the always entertaining talent show. An experience we will all remember!
TAFE Tasters
This term, a group of students took part in a TAFE taster course in Northbridge, exploring the hospitality industry. Sabrina, Florence, Hunter, and Annie had a blast learning how to make hot chocolates and lemon lime bitters. Well done, team!
Pop-Up Shop
At the beginning of this term, our students practised making and tasting different flavoured cupcakes and preparing the DIY wine bottles. They also help to design posters, create price labels, and even brainstorm a name for our shop. The Pop-Up Shop was a success, and we raised $130, and half of the proceeds went to Heart Kids.

West Coast Eagles Visit
We were thrilled to welcome members of the West Coast Eagles to our school. Students had the chance to build on their footy skills and take part in a thoughtful Q&A session with the players. It was an inspiring visit and a definite highlight of the term.
A heartfelt thank you to all our families for your ongoing support and collaboration. Your involvement plays a key role in helping us meet each student’s individual needs and supporting them to thrive.
ESC 12 Staff
If you thought Term 1 was awesome, Term 2 kept the good times rolling! We've packed in loads of fun, learning, and unforgettable experiences.
In Week 3, our Year 9s went off to Ern Halliday camp, where they tackled the flying fox, big swing, caving, and even got crafty with kite making. The nights were just as fun, with a movie night and a talent show that had us all laughing and cheering!
Some of our students got a taste of the working world with hands-on hospitality experiences—making coffees and lemon lime and bitters like pros! They also explored careers like hairdressing using virtual reality—so cool!
Our Amazing ESC 11 Circus Pop-Up Shop was a big hit! We may not have made millions, but we did serve over 200 happy customers and picked up some great customer service skills along the way.
We also said a big (and slightly teary) goodbye to Mrs Brayne as she set off on her adventure around Australia. She’s been such a special part of our classroom and will be missed, but we’re excited to hear about her travels as she sends updates!
Can you believe we are already halfway through the year? What a ride it’s been! We are super proud of everything our students have achieved so far and can’t wait for what’s coming next.

Mr S
ESC 4 - LORRAINE VANN/ELLANOR LIETZOW
Wanjoo!
“We acknowledge the Whadjuk people of the Noongar nation as the traditional custodians of the land and its waters and pay respect to their elders, past, present and emerging.
BEE KIND – A Blossoming Start to Our Year
We began our school year with the theme BEE KIND, and just like a garden in bloom, it filled our classroom with beauty, growth, and positivity. The message of kindness sprouted into creative ideas, leading to the development of BEE KIND Enterprises—our students’ very own Pop-Up Shop. Each student shone like a sunflower, proudly sharing their talents and gifts. It was a truly heartwarming experience that made a meaningful impact on all of us.
Our students have also been working hard to strengthen their executive functioning skills, such as planning, organising, problem-solving, initiating tasks, managing time, and self-regulating. With growing independence, they’re completing multimodal tasks by following schedules, lists, and graphic organisers. These lifelong skills are essential building blocks that will support them not only in school, but also in future workplaces.
As part of their work readiness program, students continued their participation in Workright, an ASDAN program designed to prepare them for employment. Every Tuesday, they’ve been heading to Striker Indoor Sports & Fitness Centre, taking on a variety of roles across the gym, courts, and cafeteria. This real-world experience allows them to build teamwork and workplace confidence—perfect preparation for Term 3 Industry Visits and their main work placements starting in Term 4.
We’ve also celebrated Aboriginal culture through several enriching activities. Families joined us for the annual New Beginnings to an Old Story event, where students proudly shared their learning. During National Reconciliation Week, we explored the significance of Sorry Day, the Mabo decision, and Noongar survival skills. Our class created a powerful and artistic educational poster to showcase their learning, which won a prize of books and wristbands for their moorditj (excellent) efforts!
In Community-Based Learning (CBL), students explored the local Leeming community, building skills in map reading, identifying landmarks, navigating crossings, and assessing hazards. These skills came to life during our visits to Fiona Stanley Hospital, where students took part in mapping and orientation team challenges.
Here are a few student reflections on their CBL experience:
This Term we went to FSH and my favourite part was going to the dining area because it was relaxing. - Thomas
On CBL, ESC4 went to Fiona Stanley Hospital. My favourite parts were using the public telephone to call Mrs Vann and seeing the portrait, Fiona Stanley. - Ruby R
I caught 2 buses to get to the hospital. I had fun. - Enoch
My class went to Fiona Stanley Hospital and I really enjoyed walking around and seeing new things. I liked calling Mrs Vann on the public telephone. - Ruby E
This Term, we went to FSH, and I enjoyed catching the 516 and 507 buses. I learnt how to buy food from the Cafe at FSH, I liked the cookies from Subway. - Kevan
On Thursday, my class, ESC4, went to Fiona Stanley Hospital. We walked around the hospital and found symbols. I liked finding the artwork. - Cameron
On CBL, I used a public telephone to call Mrs Vann. I learnt how to use a payphone. I like learning new things. - Jade
We went to FSH on CBL. My favourite part was buying cookies from Subway and eating them. - Abdul
The students have settled well into their routines and are to be commended for facing new challenges with confidence. They have shown commendable self-responsibility and increasing independence as they continue to develop their skills.
We look forward to engaging with families, specialists, and—most importantly—our students during the upcoming ‘My Plan’ meetings in Term 3. But for now, it’s time to enjoy a well-deserved holiday. Stay safe and enjoy the break!
We look forward to an exciting semester 2 ahead.
Warm wishes, Lorraine Vann, Ellanore Lietzow, Ms Palma, Mrs Harcourt, and Mrs Putland
Term 2 has been a busy and rewarding term filled with hands-on learning, teamwork, and leadership development. Students have taken on new responsibilities, explored community connections, and continued to grow both socially and academically.
Our class meetings have also evolved significantly, with students now running these meetings themselves, taking on roles of Chairperson, Secretary, and Timekeeper. These meetings provide a structured opportunity to raise ideas, solve problems, and celebrate achievements. And of course, food incentives (like fruit or biscuits) continue to be a great motivator for participation!
Our Hooley Dooley’s Pop-Up Shop was a huge success with the sale of our tie-dye bags, ANZAC biscuits, playdough, and paintings. We were so proud of the way students interacted with the public, using communication and maths skills.
In Literacy, we explored the classic text, Where the Wild Things Are, by Maurice Sendak. Students made strong personal connections with the story, particularly with Max’s emotions and his role as “King of the Jungle.”
A big highlight of the term has been our involvement in the Workright Program, which includes weekly visits to Striker Gym. This program helps students build practical workplace skills such as time management, teamwork, and responsibility. These sessions have been a fantastic opportunity for students to develop confidence and explore what being part of a real workplace feels like.
A fun and memorable moment from the term was celebrating Pyjama Day. Students bought matching PJs on a CBL excursion, practising both budgeting and cooperation. Everyone enjoyed being part of the ESC2 Dream Team, showing pride in their class and a strong sense of belonging.
As we look toward Term 3, we’re excited to continue building on the skills developed this term. Students have shown strong initiative, growing independence, and a real enthusiasm for learning through experience.

ESC 14 - LACHIE FREWER/TAMMY MEGRAIL
This term has been full of excitement, learning, and community spirit. Here's a look at what our amazing students have been up to:
Pop-Up Shops – Our Biggest and Best Yet!
Our annual Pop-Up Shops event was a tremendous success! Students enthusiastically welcomed customers and showcased their entrepreneurial skills by creating and selling five varieties of herbs and spices.
We raised over $100, with half donated to charity and the other half going towards a well-deserved class party. What a fantastic effort!
Literacy and Numeracy in Action
Students have been actively engaged in their Literacy and Numeracy programs, with a special focus on understanding the codes and conduct of various community places.
Activities included:
- Conducting surveys
- Creating graphs
- Compiling and presenting class presentations
These projects helped students develop real-world skills in data collection, analysis, and public speaking.
Bush Ranger Lessons – First Aid Focus
Our Bush Ranger sessions have centred around basic first aid and emergency response. Students have:
- Practiced the DR ABCD steps through role plays
- Learned to manage casualty scenarios
- Identified and used items from a first aid kit
- Applied bandages for minor injuries
Next, we’ll be focusing on recognising emergencies and understanding how to contact emergency services effectively.
We are incredibly proud of the growth and enthusiasm our students have shown this term.
Thank you for your continued support!

ESC 10 - CAITLYN RASMUSSEN/HAYLEY TURNER
Our classroom is buzzing with chatter about the upcoming school holidays, and everyone’s exciting plans (mostly to sleep in!).
It has been a very busy term, filled with exciting events such as public holidays, our Pop-Up Shop event, creating melodies in Music with Mrs Damos, making delicious food with Mrs Sutherland on Fridays, and tackling our P-Unit work with determination.
Our enterprises that the students made for Pop-Up Shops sold with gusto, and we made an astonishing $393 in total, half of which will go towards our charity of choice, and the other half will be used for our Year 11 excursion next term to Cannington Bowling. We are extremely proud of the students' creativity, focus, and skills through the design and creation stage of our enterprise. As well as selling items on the day, and calculating the money at the conclusion of the event.
CBL adventures have taken us to the Zoo this term to assist in completing our ASDAN Portfolio, and next term we will be heading to Bowling with the rest of the Year 11s. Students have been very successful in accessing all forms of public transport, including buses, trains, and even a ferry!
A big shout-out to the ever-incredible Mrs Bruns, Mrs C, and Mrs Mahalingam, without whom we could not survive! We are always grateful for the hard work and smiling faces every day.

Wishing everyone a safe and enjoyable school holidays!
The ESC 10 Team
As we wrap up Term 2, I just wanted to share some of the fantastic things ESC 1 has been up to. The students have done an amazing job this term, showing great effort, enthusiasm, and teamwork in everything they've taken on.
One of our big highlights was our Business Enterprise project – Wax Masters! The students loved creating their handmade candles and worked hard to get everything ready for our Pop-Up Shop Day. The day was a huge success and such a great way to celebrate their creativity, teamwork, and business skills. They should all be proud of what they achieved.
In Preliminary English, students have made some solid progress in both their writing and speaking. They've been researching different job options, thinking about what might suit them in the future, and sharing their ideas in class presentations. It’s been great to see them taking such a positive approach to career planning.
As part of our Preliminary Maths program, the class has also been working together to plan an upcoming excursion to Striker Bowling. They've been learning how to manage a class budget, calculate costs including travel, food, and the activity itself, and make decisions as a group. It’s been a fantastic hands-on learning experience, and we’re all looking forward to putting those skills into action when we go on the trip next term!
We also had a wonderful time at the ‘New Beginnings to an Old Story’ incursion on Friday, 30th May. The students listened respectfully to Dreamtime stories shared by Elders and got involved in some great art activities. It was lovely to see everyone so engaged.
I'm proud of how far everyone has come this term. I hope you all have a relaxing and well-earned break. I’m looking forward to seeing everyone back and ready for our final semester of school!

ESC 1
It has been a rewarding term, filled with learning, growth, and memorable highlights. One of the standout moments was our recent Pop-Up Shop, where students showcased their hard work and creativity by producing snuffle mats, cat wands, and dog biscuits. The event was a huge success, with all products selling out by the end of the day. Seeing the students so engaged in the process was fantastic, from preparation to customer service. Their efforts contributed directly to our ASDAN unit on Business Enterprise, and they should be very proud of what they achieved.
All students have been thriving in their workplace learning placements this semester. We have received plenty of positive feedback from employers, with many students building strong relationships and laying the groundwork for future opportunities. Seeing how confident and capable they have become in these settings has been a pleasure. They now look forward to starting their Semester 2 placements with renewed enthusiasm.
Our TAFE students continue to work hard in their chosen courses and have been engaging in thoughtful conversations about their plans. It’s clear that they are starting to form clear goals and pathways, and it has been exciting to support them as they explore different possibilities beyond school. In our preliminary English unit, students have been working on creating their resumes. This has been a valuable and practical task, allowing them to reflect on their strengths and prepare a tool they can use for future employment opportunities.
Throughout June, our class has also participated in the Push-Up Challenge. Each student has embraced the physical and mental challenge, and we’ve seen significant improvement in strength and endurance, with many students averaging over 20 push-ups a day. It’s been a great way to build resilience and support wellbeing while having fun as a class.
We are looking forward to the soccer carnival on the final day to cap off the term. It will be a fantastic opportunity to come together as a team, enjoy some friendly competition, and celebrate all we’ve achieved over the semester.
Thank you for your continued support. It has been a busy and successful term, and I am incredibly proud of every student's progress.
Warm regards,
Mr. Tom Bakowski
Term 2 has been a busy and exciting time in the PE Department as we transitioned into our winter sports program! Students enthusiastically embraced Soccer, AFL, and Netball, whether building on existing skills or learning something new. Well done to all classes for their fantastic energy and sportsmanship!
A Visit from the West Coast Eagles
In Week 2, we were thrilled to welcome Jack Williams, Bo Allen, Harley Reid, and Brady Hough from the West Coast Eagles to Leeming ESC. Our students had the opportunity to ask some fun questions – from “Do you go for the Fremantle Dockers?” to “What’s the best stadium you’ve played at?” After the Q&A, everyone headed to the oval for a kick with the players. A big thank you to the Eagles for bringing smiles to our students' faces!
Rugby WA Clinics
Students participated in an exciting one-day Rugby Clinic run by Rugby WA this term. They had a blast running into bump pads and scoring tries! Some of our students also attended the Rugby WA Gala Day, enjoying various sports including rowing, volleyball, and cricket.
Kalability AFL Carnival
Our students proudly represented Leeming ESC at the Kalability AFL Carnival in Kalamunda. Despite the rain postponing the event, we still got wet! —Everyone had a great time. We had two teams competing in Division 2 and Division 3, with our Division 2 team bringing home a trophy! A fantastic effort by all involved.
Leeming ESC Soccer Carnival
To wrap up the term, our much-anticipated Leeming ESC Soccer Carnival will take place on the last day of term. Classes will compete for the title of Soccer Champions, and the excitement doesn't stop there! We’ll finish off with a staff vs. students match that promises to be full of fun and friendly competition.
The Push-Up Challenge
Throughout June, students and staff have participated in the Push-Up Challenge, aiming to improve physical and mental fitness while raising awareness and funds for mental health in Australia. From traditional push-ups to alternative exercises, the school community has come together to support this meaningful cause.

Leeming SHS Education Support Centre proudly celebrated Mindful May, a month dedicated to promoting student health, happiness, and connection.
To support this initiative, the Health and Wellbeing Committee organised fun and creative lunchtime activities each Friday, encouraging students to take a mindful break and enjoy time together.
Activities included making colourful playdough, designing personalised Pokémon, and Yu-Gi-Oh! Cards, and battling it out on Mario Kart. These engaging sessions offered students a chance to relax, express themselves, and build positive social connections in a welcoming space. Each activity was met with enthusiastic participation and a fantastic turnout, highlighting the importance of incorporating wellbeing into everyday school life.
During May, we also celebrated Go Rainbow Day (#IDAHOBIT). Staff and students proudly wore rainbow-coloured clothing to take a visible stand against LGBTQIA+ discrimination and to show support for a safe, inclusive, and respectful school environment for all.
Thank you to the Health and Wellbeing Committee for bringing Mindful May to life and making it such a success!
Workplace learning has been buzzing this term, with transitions commencing for some of the year 12 students!
We are delighted to share after successful work experience placements, Coby Tubic and Adriano Vozarevic are transitioning one day per week next term, joining the bunker at Brandon’s Shredding. Goldie Lawrence enjoyed her school-arranged work experience at Proudly Productive so much, she is also transitioning one day per week next term to join their work skills workshop.
It was a pleasure to award Brock Cheetham the Employee of the Month award. He is a very worthy recipient! He has impressed supervisors, at Workpower and the Primary School Canteen. Every task and challenge presented to him, he tries his very best. These workplaces have presented such different skill sets, and he has been fast to learn and adapt to both. Amazing work by Brock!
A special mention to Jack Asmutaitis. He has consistently demonstrated leadership skills and maintained a strong work ethic this semester, with all tasks at the Bunnings Garden Centre. He should be so proud of his efforts!
Exciting times ahead for Angus Bell and Liam Felstead-Welch as they are about to embark on their school-based traineeships next year. All of your hard work and dedication leading up to this point are a true credit to you both. Good luck as you embark on chosen career pathways!
Wishing everyone a lovely school holiday break!
This term in Visual Arts, students have been immersed in a variety of creative projects that explore both artistic techniques and key vocabulary. Our focus has been on encouraging students to express themselves while learning about ocean life and its fascinating creatures.
Students began by creating vibrant jellyfish crafts, using descriptive vocabulary to identify and discuss the dome and tentacles of their jellyfish. This hands-on activity encouraged creativity and the use of new terminology during class discussions and critiques.
We then moved on to painting unique and colourful koi patterns. Throughout this project, students demonstrated active participation and careful attention to detail, completing their paintings with pride and care.
In addition, students worked collaboratively to create boats for a sea collage, further developing their teamwork and design skills. Another highlight was the construction of baby sharks using paper plates and masking tape.
Overall, this term has been filled with opportunities for creativity, skill-building, and fun as students explored the wonders of the ocean through art. We are proud of their achievements and look forward to more imaginative projects ahead!
