Other highlights included the Leeming SHS and Leeming ESC Athletics Carnival and the ESSN Athletics Carnival. Thank you to Ms Heard and Ms Pereira for the huge job of coordinating and organising the carnivals and also for organising the after school athletics program during the term. There was a great turn out of up to 40 students each week and this prepared them well for the athletics carnivals at the end of term. There was fun, colour, excitement, engagement and loads of smiles at the carnivals, well done to all the staff and students involved.
Thank you to Mrs Houden for coordinating the Music Rocks program and concert. This engagement program was highly successful, culminating in the students performing a concert for staff, families and friends along with other schools in North Perth last weekend.
The State Government has announced a minor works and maintenance program for schools to be delivered over the next two years. Leeming SHS Esc will receive $26,000 for projects within the school. The School Board will prioritise how this money will be spent in 2020.
The Parent Network Meetings have been very successful this year, thank you to Mrs Houden for organising the guest speakers this year. Also a big thank you to Board member, Dawn Barker for sharing lots of tips for navigating Centrelink, NDIS and also savings on things like electricity bills. These meetings provide a great opportunity for parents to share information and support each other. The last meeting for the year will be held on Monday 11th November.
One of our Board members Vicki Banks will be leaving us at the end of the year as her daughter is in her final year of school and will transition from Leeming SHS ESC. Our School Board is seeking nominations for parent representative positions starting in 2020. The role of the Board is to enable parents and members of the community to engage in activities that are in the best interest of students and enhance the education provided by the school. The Board meets twice a term on a Monday afternoon between 1:00pm – 3:00pm. If you are interested in joining our very collaborative and productive School Board please complete a Nomination Form attached and return it to leemingesc.wa.edu.au or hand into the office by Monday November 18 2019. An election will be held if the number of nominations exceeds the 2 positions. If you require any further information about the process or role of a parent representative, please contact me on 9237 6870.
Next term all parents are welcome to attend our Annual Open Meeting where we will review what the Board has been working on during the year as well as progress towards our Business Plan priorities. The meeting will be held on Monday 28th October from 2:30 – 3:30pm. If you attend the meeting students will be supervised during this time. A formal invitation will be send early term 4.
I hope you all have an enjoyable break and a reminder that Monday 14th October is a School Development Day and students return to school on Tuesday 15th October.
The School Board met on September 9th and we now have a requirement for clothing for our Community Support Project. If you are able to see your way clear the following items would be of great help.
1) Underwear both large and small sizes; and
2) White sports socks.
We have good supplies of food however in next term we will prepare hampers for some families at Christmas time so contributions of items would be appreciated.
All of these contributions may be brought to the Administration Office.
As to other items of school business, the Board received a presentation on the Literacy curriculum initiatives, approved the School Development Days for 2020, an update of the capital works program and discussed the Annual Public meeting agenda for Term 4.
Planning for the next three year business plan (2020 - 2022) has also started.

Thank you to all our families who have used Consent2Go over the last term. This process has streamlined how we collate permission and for big events such as the ESSN sports carnival, it gives staff members easy access to student medical details and contact information, without having to carry around bulky files.
Some tips on using Consent2Go:
- Respond to emails when they arrive; if the RSVP date passes, you are no longer able to electronically give consent.
- If you haven’t seen any emails from Consent2Go, look in your Junk / Spam files. You will need to move the email into your Inbox so future emails will be recognised as important.
- If you have issues that cannot be resolved, feel free to call Kerryn Coles on 9237 6870 for support. You can arrange a time to meet and go through the process if required.

Through out Term 3 a group of students from Leeming ESC have been jamming every Tuesday on drums, keyboards and electric guitars. These practice sessions came to fruition on Sunday 22nd September at Badlands in Northbridge. Staff, families and carers from a variety of schools came together with the crew from “Music Rocks” and performed a fabulous medley of songs to keep the crowd entertained. The Leeming crew of Mikhail, Isaiah, Oscar, Branden, Karleigh, Hanna, Tarkin, Brittany and Gerald showcased their talent and demonstrated they are all born to perform. Tarkin had the crowd cheering for more as he gave a stirring rendition of “TNT”. Gerald showcased his natural drum ability as he belted out “Old Town Road”, and Oscar and Branden never missed a beat on the electric guitars. Congratulations on your performance Leeming ESC! It was a pleasure working with such a talented group of enthusiastic students. Thanks also to the staff and parents who gave up their Sunday afternoon to support our musicians.

It has been an awesome term with students working hard across all learning areas in conjunction with their My Plan goals to make every moment count. The My Plan process has been one of the most rewarding processes I have had the pleasure of sharing with students and families as they have spoken of their aspiration for life beyond school. As we lead towards graduation, I feel comforted as a teacher in knowing each, and every student has a bright, meaningful pathway ahead.
Congratulations to Jake Allington for receiving the Merit Certificate for ESC 1, to Caden Sharp for gaining casual employment at Coles, to Chloe Banks and Jake Allington for passing transport training to travel independently to and from school, and to Allara May for being awarded Employee of the Month for Workplace Learning, and for receiving the AAC Champ for August.
Further accolades to Christy Newton, Ben Moore and Caden Sharp who received outstanding comments for their ASDAN: Money Progression portfolios presented at external moderation earlier this month, and to Gerald Chang for his participation in the Music Rocks performance on Sunday, 22nd September.
With further achievements on the track and field, Raynor Keane is to be commended for gaining fourth place in the 1500m race at the Leeming SHS Athletics Carnival and finally, who said learning isn’t fun??? Some wonderful moments from Term 3.
R U OK Day: Students and staff spending some special time sharing beautiful messages they wrote to each other and a friendly game of twister to encourage conversation, or a giggle or two.
Chat Group - Allara having a great time making stress balls to encourage her language. I know I received a few stress balls that day from the students…. Might there be a message in that?
Graduation Photos: Trying 500+ times
Athletics Carnival: Raynor leaving everyone behind
Kye Strawbridge passed his driving test!

I would like to thank the students for their commitment this term and to my wonderful EA team, Dianne, Donna, Sonia and Stephanie. I would like to acknowledge Caden Sharp, Ben Moore and Joshua Gamble for hosting an amazing Leadership Assembly on Monday, 23.08.19. In closing, I hope you enjoy reading their Leadership speeches and a special quote from me.
Happy Holidays! Ms FP
“Make your life a masterpiece; imagine no limitations on what you can be, have or do.”
One of the highlight of this term is the Sports Carnival. Everyone got into the spirit of the day and did so well in competing and cheering for their team mates. Congratulations to Ben Shaw for coming 7th place in the 1500m run.

All the students have settled in well and made steady progress in their new work placement this semester. Here are some photos of our students in action.

ESC 3 has been working towards work readiness this year and over the past 2 weeks, they have explored industry awareness with visits to Good Samaritan Industriess in Canning Vale and this week, had a tour of Kailis Brothers in Leederville. It was great to see EVERY student embrace the range of duties at both locations and wear the correct safety equipment and uniforms. They really looked the part. They worked on conveyor belt sorting, shelf tidying and made sure they signed in before starting. Some students faced fears head on and worked hard when they were nervous. One student even kissed a fish on the lips, after she was scared to even touch them. Another brave student faced his fear of the cold, when he entered a giant freezer and stayed for as long as he could. We posed in a group shot holding an octopus, it was slimy and slippery and heavy, but we did it!! It is so great to see my wonderful class ask questions, get involved and show enthusiasm. They have all come so far, the Education Assistants of ESC 3 and myself could not be more proud. We are ready to face our work experience roles head on in term four and can't wait to show our range of strengths and abilities to our new supervisors and managers. Term four, ESC 3 is heading your way with enthusiasm!

Hello from ESC 4. As we draw close to the end of Term 3 we realise how fast the year is speeding past.
Year 10 is preparing for work placements as all students will begin their work experience placements in Term 4. In Term 3 we have begun working on resumes and visiting some work sites to get a feel for what it will be like going to work placement next term.
We hope you have a wonderful holidays and we will see you all next term.
ESC5 have enjoyed learning about Native Species, Habitats and Sustainability at their local Bibra Lake Wetlands and connecting their learning experiences into variety of projects. The students have been writing titles and captions to their photographs taken at Bibra Lake to enter into the Chevron Focus Environment Competition.
The student’s have displayed a tremendous effort in putting their learning into action, revitalising the school frog pond and caring for their native bush tucker plants donated by SURCEL. The students are working hard in weeding, watering and maintaining this area for all of Leeming High School to enjoy.
We will finish the term with our last visit to Bibra Lake Reserve with a focus on soaking in the tranquil environment and playing in the Adventure Playground. Learning about and involving themselves in these projects has given the students a sense of belonging and spiritual connection to the land that supports overall positive health and wellbeing.
It has been busy this term with our active involvement in the Leeming Athletics and ESSN Sports Carnivals. Travelling on buses and trains to reach our destination at Gateways Shopping Center. We have enjoyed Book Week, flying paper planes and R U OK? Day. And during, Kids Teaching Kids week, Samuel, Zachary and Jake took on teaching the class to follow their written procedure to make rocky road.
We have enjoyed getting to know Jasothao (prac student) as part of out team during her stay in weeks 8 and 9 and would like to acknowledge her support, kindness and contributions. We look forward to her return for 4 weeks in term 4.
The staff in ESC5 are so proud of the students increased independence, teamwork and positivity. Congratulations to Ella Lowrey on her merit certificate for fantastic team work and participation at the Leeming and ESSN Carnival this term. The students are incredibly impressed by their amazing, hard working and generous staff. You are all superstars!
Thank you to the amazing and best team; Toni Broadhurst, Michelle Smith, Lisa Palma and Angie Heffernan.
Enjoy the well deserved school holidays and the glorious sunshine.
Lorraine Vann

The last half of term 3 has definitely been an athletic one! At the end of week 8 we participated in the Leeming SHS House Groups Carnival, where we all proudly came to school in our house group colours, and pushed ourselves to succeed in the 50m running race and the numerous team games. The following week we were at it again, and travelled to Atwell College to compete in the ESSN Athletics Carnival. Our sportsmanship and hard work paid off because…LEEMING WON! ESC 6 are also very proud of Ezra, who won the “Most Improved” medal for Leeming. This term we’ve been busy with our academics too, and have been learning about healthy eating and nutrition in Health, addition and subtraction in Maths and our personal history in HASS. We concluded our personal history unit by creating our very own family trees. We’ve enjoyed our term 3 CBL outings to Garden City, and the tight time frames to transition from bus to train have been challenging, but we have handled it well by listening and following instructions. Take a look at ESC 6’s favourite moments from term 3 below.

Karleigh: My favourite part of term 3 was when we get on the bus and train to go to Garden City shopping centre for CBL. I like going to Music Rocks to sing, I like going to Art where I am making an apple and banana bowl out of clay.
Hanna: My favourite part of term 3 was going on CBL. We went to Garden City and I had nachos for lunch. I’m excited because I am playing in the band at Music Rocks. I am playing the keyboard for the song Old Town Road. We had lots of fun at Raymond’s pizza party, and when Leeming won the trophy at the ESSN Sports Carnival!
Henry: I like doing DI because I earn blocks if I do well. I like going to Hanna’s birthday because I got to play arcade games. I like doing CBL because I got a chicken burrito with Mexican cola. I like doing D&T because I got to use the saw cutter. I like doing yoga because I got to stretch my body.
Lachy: My favourite part of term 3 was playing music, listening to Miss Gage and playing on the playground. I like AFL tipping and going on the bus to Garden City on CBL. I liked doing sport at the ESSN carnival.
Ezra: My favourite part was term 3 was the ESSN carnival at Atwell College. I won a medal and Leeming won. My favourite part of term 3 was CBL at Garden City. We got on a bus and train. I bought KFC for lunch.
Raymond: My favourite part of term 3 was going to Garden City for CBL. It took us 24 ½ minutes to go there by Transperth from stop 19997 to Garden City entrance and I had Salsas for lunch. My friends are Karleigh, Henry, Hanna, Ezra, Alyssa, Lily, Makenzie, Charlotte, Sam and Harvey. During AFL tipping, my goal is to stay on first place to get the prize. I went to Hanna’s birthday party at the bowling alley and I got a STRIKE! Speaking of birthday, FUN FACT! My friends and I had a pizza party in the classroom.
Matthew:
Term 3, has nearly come to an end and ESC 7 have been very busy, with lots of learning and new experiences.
We have been reading 'Jack and the Beanstalk' and integrated the theme throughout most learning areas. This included planting Broad beans in plastic cups with paper towel and water. We have been monitoring their growth.
We have been introduced to silk worms and currently have them as our class pets. We are learning all about their life cycle.
ESC 7 also hosted an afternoon tea for their parents and family members on Monday 9th September 2019. The occasion was very successful and it was great to meet different family members of the students in ESC 7. Everyone enjoyed the event!
Madison McAuliffe has been participating in both PE and Home Economics mainstream classes. She is doing really well and developing new friendships. Madison also won a medal at the ESSN sports carnival for showing great sportsmanship. Keep up the great work!
Mikail Tanriver has been participating in the ‘Music Rocks’ program, and has been rocking out some funky tunes!
I am very grateful to of been blessed with such a wonderful class of students over the last few weeks and an amazing team. Tenille Mitchell and Chloe Hodge your dedication and support is a true indication of the understanding, bonds and love you have for your class.
ESC 7 is looking forward to a busy Term 4, with lots of new and exciting things to come!
What an eventful term this has been! ESC 8 students have been busy learning about the Solar System in Science and visited Scitech to learn all about the Milky Way and the Galaxy. As part of STEM they have created a rocket out of recycled material to launch into space. In History and Bush Rangers, students have been busy learning about Parks and Reserves that represents Aboriginal culture, heritage, native flora and fauna. To extend their knowledge, an excursion to Kings Park was organised and the students collected evidence to prepare a poster.
The school sports carnival and the ESSN sports carnival were the highlights of this term. The students demonstrated great enthusiasm and sportsmanship, participated in team games, cheered for their teams and school. This term the students have been learning about the importance of celebration and how celebrations bring the community together. They have celebrated their victory at ESSN sports carnival, celebrated birthdays, celebrated the end of a successful term and special occasions in their lives.
Our Community Based Learning has been very interesting as the students practiced travel training, using money to load their SmartRider, ordering a meal and demonstrating appropriate behaviour in the community. To celebrate a successful term, we went to Zone Bowling and once again showed true sportsmanship by playing and cheering for their team mates. Another feather in our hat is the amazing performance by Isaiah Lee at Music Rocks on Sunday the 22nd September.
Well done ESC 8 boys! Proud of you all! What an awesome team! A big ‘thank you’ to my awesome team, Mrs Sajjay, Ms Patterson and Mrs Rollin who have been part of this amazing journey, working hand in hand with me in completing another successful term.

We have been visiting Notre Dame University in Fremantle every Friday this term. We have been working with the university students who are studying sports teaching. After recess we are driven on the school bus, by Miss Heard, and taken to Fremantle. Each of us has a buddy who we work with every week, practising our sports skills. We would like to tell you about our buddies:
Sian: My buddy, Brenton, is happy and kind to me. He helps me with my basketball.
Adam: Cameron is my buddy. He is awesome. He is funny. We both like dragons.
Poppy: My buddy is Anna. She is kind and makes me happy. She plays games with me.
Charlotte: My buddy is Will. He is hilarious! He helps me when we play soccer.
YuJia: My buddy is Xu Xu. She’s very smiley and happy. I really like working with her.
Jack: My buddy is Clarence. He is funny and strong,
Hi and welcome to our account from Term 3! It has been an eventful time with many changes and exciting projects being undertaken.
Early in the term we had Multicultural Day which was a great success. Students participated in many of the lively activities that were arranged to celebrate diversity through colours, dancing and music. Students cheered each other on, sending positive vibes around the school!
ESC13 held an assembly in week 5. Students helped with the preparation, the set up and delivery of the assembly. A big THANK YOU goes to Mrs Mahalingam who prepared the room design to cater to the needs of the dance item and prompted select students when to speak. Much appreciated!
A main event for this semester was the organisation and implementation of the Pop-Up Shops! Assisted by staff, students chose crafts they wanted to produce. They researched how much the materials would cost to make the items; how much each item would sell for and whether the profit and effort were worth the input. Students voted on each craft, explaining their reasons why. At the event, students took turns in selling their wares. It was a terrific experience and all products were sold!
Students completing Preliminary English (Unit 3) are working on skills to assist them in applying for jobs. They have previously been recognising their personal and professional qualities, skills and experiences toward being work ready and employable and now they are using this knowledge to write cover letters and create or update resumes. These skills are relevant and vital to what they may require in the near future.
The ladies from the Independent Living Centre WA (ILC) have been a strong force in our classroom this term, working with select students to promote communication through language exposure in areas of Personal Grooming, Work Placement and independent living. The classroom staff are very appreciative of the time and effort offered in training us in their strategies and knowledge.
Please be safe over the term break and we’ll see you all in term 4!
Mrs Renee Bowell
During Term 3 ESC 14 went to Rockingham shopping centre every second Thursday for CBL. We had to catch 2 buses and a train to get there. While we were there all students learnt how to use the self-serve checkouts, the ATMs and a couple learnt how to go down the escalator independently. All students did very well learning these skills and trying them by themselves. Another great independent skill the students learnt was tagging on and off and knowing when their SmartRider balance was getting low.
Taj and Patrick also learnt how to change money at the bank so we had a float for our business enterprise.
It has been a very busy and exciting term 3, well done everyone.
Mrs Dinning
All the students who attended our week eight Sports Carnival got right into the spirit of the day and had a great time both competing and watching the events whilst supporting their respective houses. The students were exceptionally well behaved and all of them competed in their events to the best of their ability. It was very pleasing to note that several of the students from ESC 15 were selected to represent our school at the Education Support Carnival in week nine. Many of our students went to the after-school athletics programme in preparation.

Our bushland rejuvenation project continues to hold the group’s attention. The final part of our project is now in place, with the addition of an old recycled hand basin that we decided to adapt for use as a bird bath. This initial idea came from the brainstorming that we carried out in the early stages of our planning. With the everlasting flowers now coming into bloom the bushland area is looking wonderful. They say that “a picture is worth a thousand words” and so I will leave the pictures below to indicate the way things are going at the moment.

Our community-based learning has continued to go well with the students suggesting and then planning excursions as a part of their ASDAN “Out in the community” course. We have recently been to the Joondalup and Mandurah shopping centres and also Elizabeth Quay. Many of the students are now becoming very practiced at planning a journey using the Transperth Journey Planner app and needless to say, they all behave exceptionally well when out in public.

The students have continued to work hard in their work placements and are enjoying their experiences whilst continuing to learn valuable workplace skills and gaining valuable experience in their possible future directions. Two of our students are now involved in work trials.

Notre Dame
Two of our students are very fortunate to be involved with the Notre Dame sports programme on Fridays whist the rest are involved in activities like Media Studies, Business, Hospitality and Permaculture. The Notre Dame students provided an individually tailored sports-based experience which was designed to develop the hand to eye coordination skills of each individual.

Lastly, Troy celebrated his 16th birthday with the rest of the class earlier on this term. We were fortunate to have a cake as well as sushi after everyone had presented Troy with his birthday card and had sung him happy birthday.
It’s been a great term well done everyone
Mr Roberts
Leeming SHS House Athletics Carnival
On Friday 13th September, Leeming Senior High School hosted their annual House Athletics Carnival. All students from our centre were involved throughout the day. We marched out to the oval and then participated in a whole school dance warm up. Our students (and staff) showed some great moves! We then began our team games block on the oval. Middle school students participated in Leaderball and Bean Bag hoop games in their house’s, followed by upper school. In the next block of events, our students participated in the 50m sprint. There was a lot of speed and competiveness left out on the track! Well done to all students who tried their absolute best, showing great determination! In the last block of team games, all students participated in tunnel ball and under/over on the basketball courts. It was amazing to see our whole centre in one space, competing in games, showing great sportsmanship and encouragement towards each other. Thank you to all staff and students involved, it was a very hot day in the sun, but everyone showed fantastic attitudes and big smiles throughout the day.
Well done to Oscar Cuffe-Cain who competed in all mainstream events, representing Ramsdale in the year 7 boys. Also well done to Madison McAuliffe, Raynor Keane, Ben Shaw, Tyler Lim, Tarkin Barker and Branden Marceca who also competed in various mainstream events.
Congratulations to Grady (Blue) who was the overall winning house group!

ESSN Athletics Carnival
Tuesday 17th of September was another big day for our staff and students! All middle school students and selected upper school students were taken to Atwell College to participate in the ESSN Athletics Carnival. Students rotated around various stations for the day, competing to earn points for our school. Some favourite events included hurdles, running races, high jump and wicket cricket. A massive thank you to all the staff who assisted for the day, you were all fantastic. Our students displayed great sportsmanship and positive attitudes throughout the whole day too!
Congratulations to Brittany Walton who received the most valuable players medal, Ezra Cuming who received most improved medal and Madison McAuliffe who received the sportsmanship medal.
And lastly…Congratulations to Leeming for Winning the Cup! There was a lot of excitement in the air and it was amazing so see so many happy faces!! Winners are grinners, GO LEEMING!

It has been exciting to read the Year 10 My Plan’s and develop a plan for their very first work experience placement. We would like to welcome the 19 Year 10 students who join the program in term 4. These students are attending a variety of industry placements; Claremont Riding Centre, Bunnings, Apace Community Garden, Cannington library just to name a few!
Term 4 is shaping up to be a very busy term with some students participating in additional work experience days/entering into work trials as they transition and prepare for Year 12 or 13 for 2020.
Allara May was awarded our Employee Of The Month award at our week 10 assembly. Allara was commended for attending two workplaces this semester; Proudly Productive and Workpower. At both work sites she has practiced a variety of tasks and been willing to give everything a go. Throughout the semester Allara has been increasing her communication and confidence. Awesome effort Allara!!
Congratulations Anna Johnson and Tayla Sherratt.
Both of these Year 12 students have successfully completed their Certificate II in Community Services. For the duration of the traineeship both of these girls worked once per week for 8 hours in their chosen settings – Anna in Aged Care and Tayla in Childcare. The girls worked very hard on their theory throughout the duration of the traineeship and attended the required training days.
