Throughout the year we celebrate culture and community through a range of engaging community events with our partner school, Leeming SHS. These events are always a highlight and showcase the vibrant welcoming and inclusive community we strive to achieve between our two schools.
Leeming SHS ESC have been celebrating an annual event New Beginnings to an Old Story for the past 4 years. This year it was wonderful to be able to celebrate and learn more about the past, present and future knowledge of the First Nations people with staff and students from Leeming SHS. During week two of this term, local Artist Justin Martin from Djurandi Dreaming created a beautiful mural with staff and students from both schools. The mural highlights local flora and fauna and acknowledgement of First Nations Anzacs with the inclusion of poppies. Thank you to all the students and staff involved in creating the beautiful mural. A special thank you to Mrs Vann, Mrs Smith and Mrs Palmer for organising the event. We look forward to building on this annual event in partnership with Leeming SHS as a school community and continue developing Aboriginal cultural awareness, knowledge and understanding across both schools.
On Thursday, 25 May, we celebrated culture and community with Leeming SHS at an inclusive assembly. Congratulations to our two award winners. Raymond Rivera received the Vocational Education and Training Award for completing his school-based traineeship, achieving Certificate II in Retail. The Citizenship Award went to Ayden Falzone for his dedication to the Bush Ranger program by being actively involved in the Keep Australia Beautiful WA Adopt-a Spot initiative and consistently demonstrating the school value Unity. Ayden was an integral member of the opening ceremony during the annual event New Beginnings to an Old Story playing the didgeridoo.
On Friday, 23 June, Leeming SHS ESC invites you to our next community event, the Annual Pop Up Shops where students will be selling a wide range of creative products they have been creating as part of their class Business Enterprise. We will also have students from Leeming and West Leeming primary schools visiting on the day. The range of products and quality gets better every year. This event is always a highlight of the year with wonderful energy, excitement, and community connection.
I am very proud to announce that Leeming SHS ESC has been selected as a Lead School for the Department of Education Quality Teaching Strategy. The Quality Teaching Strategy (QTS) is the Department of Education’s position on effective teaching and the aspects of school culture which support improved teaching practice. As a Lead School we will be supporting schools across Western Australia to understand and implement Teaching for Impact which is a central element of the Quality Teaching Strategy. This is an exciting project where we will collaborate with other lead schools to share ideas and look at best practice across a range of different school settings.

NEW BEGINNINGS TO AN OLD STORY
In Week 2, staff and students from ESC and LSHS worked together to create a mural masterpiece, under the guidance of talented local Indigenous artist Justin Martin from Djurandi Dreaming. The week ended with a series of activities including an Aboriginal artefacts presentation from Greg Nannup from Indigenous Tours WA, active sport games with Macca and his students from the Stephen Michaels Foundation and Aboriginal Symbols Trails around school, to embrace the past, present and future knowledge of the First Nations People. A big thank you to Justin, Greg, Macca for sharing their expertise and to Lorraine Vann and the Aboriginal Curriculum Standards Framework Committee for coordinating such a successful event this year. The students thoroughly enjoyed it. It was a Moorditj (strong/solid) day!

Our annual parent expos have been amazing, and this year was no exception with parents and providers communicating very positive feedback.
The Expo featured 24 disability service providers, and others specialising in Employment, Leisure and Recreation, Therapy Services, Support Coordination, Plan Management, NDIS, Community Access and Accommodation.
It was a great turn out and we enjoyed having our past students and parents talk about their experiences post school and where they are at now:
- Tarkin Barker and Sonia Barker (mum)
- Poppy Self
- Sian King
- Jone Potgieter
- Kayla Barker and Dawn Barker (mum)
This was a highlight of the night listening to their stories about the jobs they have, staying connected with friends, having a girlfriend, getting engaged and living a great life.
Thank you to Vojin for coordinating the night with the amazing support of the Workplace Learning team (Sarah, Annette and Cara). It was a fantastic event, and the families very much appreciated the opportunity to find out more about what is available for their children.
There were many helpers, a big thank you to Jenelle, Lisa V, Yvonne, Dallas, Angelo, Jackie, Colleen for their assistance on the night.

In a special assembly held on Thursday, 4 May, our 2023 Student Leaders were presented with the leader badges. Congratulations to all our leaders. We look forward to seeing you develop your leadership skills throughout the year.
ESC 4 ENTERPRISE GARDEN PROJECT
This term the students in ESC4 are reaping the rewards of their hard work.
On Wednesday, the students visited Bunnings in O'Connor and engaged in a planting herb workshop with Brodie.
The students also had a budget of $15.00 each from their Term 2 Enterprise projects and happily purchased their own plant to take care off.
This term the students will care for the Aboriginal garden, their herb garden and their own plant as part of an integrated garden to kitchen program.
Congratulations students you are all shinning as brightly as the sun!

This term we have continued the explicit teaching of expected behaviours through our weekly PBS lessons. The last 5 weeks of the term focused on:
Unity: Accept Cultural Differences Self-Responsibility: Be Kind to Yourself and Others |
Here are the current student and staff USTAR winners, announced at our week 5 ESC assembly:
Coby Tubic
Izzie Millgate
Dylan Geiles, Yolande Stewart, Keran Davies, Emma Gage, Lachie Frewer, Lorraine Vann, Sophie Bartlett, Prudence Harcourt and Della Chamberlain.
It has been full steam ahead with our P-Unit programs this term and you had better believe that this bunch of young gentlemen are working so hard to achieve their goals! We had the New Beginnings to An Old Story event in Week 2 and what an experience it was. We now have an incredible mural to reflect on and appreciate for many, many years to come.
We’ve also been busy getting ourselves sorted for Pop-Up shops which is happening in Week 9 (watch this space!). There will be some incredible enterprises on offer so make sure you attend!
Our class USTAR Award this week went to everyone in ESC 1, understandably so when you consider the constant changes that have been occurring in this classroom this term. I greatly appreciate the student’s flexibility and kindness. I’d also like to thank Ms Xavier and Miss Riley for their all-around ‘awesomeness’ in being their eyes and ears of the classroom in my absences, they are worth their weight in gold!
I cannot wait to see what we get up to in the next 5 weeks!
Caitlin Knox, Mel Riley & Ms Xavier
Mathematics: We have continued to adopt a broad approach to mathematics instruction this term, covering some elements of mental maths and functional mathematics. In mental maths, my Year 10 students have been learning their multiplication tables and division skills targeted at enhancing their memory recall. Students have had frequent opportunities to apply their skills to read time on analogue and digital clocks. Additionally, students have participated in other learning activities, including reading and interpreting timetables of the different modes of public transport (bus and train), identifying their arrival and departure times and measuring clothes and shoes sizes (both in the classroom and in real life situations) during Community Based Learning. My Year 10 students have also been involved in a financial literacy program adding up the prices of items on a shopping list, calculating change and working on their budgeting skills such as incomes, expenditure, and savings.
English: “You learn to read by reading”, “You learn to write by writing” and “Education for life” have been the underlying principles on which our literacy instruction hinges this term. Since the commencement of this term, our students have been focusing on learning to fill different kinds of forms in preparation for life after school. They have also, been carrying out research work on their chosen industry for Term 4. Each student presented their completed findings to the rest of the class through a PowerPoint presentation, and took pride in showcasing their speaking and listening skills. Phonics, reading comprehension (for students to understand the who, what, when, where and why of a text during reading) and recount writing have also been other areas of our teaching focus. Students are consolidating on their literacy skills in a variety of ways by engaging in different forms of writing activities weekly, learning their community sight words, as well as participating in creative writing.
Workright and Career and Business Enterprise: Students have been learning vital work skills this semester under our Workright and Career and Business program. By participating in specific tasks (such as folding washes, dusting and cleaning gym equipment, wiping tables at the cafeteria, restocking the fridge, etc) has given students multiple opportunities to practise the essential skills of teamwork and mutual respect in an authentic learning environment at Striker in Leeming Recreation Centre.
In class, students had the opportunity to practise running their own business through a whole class soap-making project under the business name of ‘Natural Temptation’. To promote and advertise the business to members of our school community, students produced magnificent posters ready to be displayed at the Pop-up Shop. My Year 10 students have made various types of natural soaps including, (1) Honey and Cinnamon, (2) Coconut, Ginger and Lemongrass, (3) Coconut and Jojoba, (4) Oatmeal, Vanilla and Honey and (5) Lemongrass and Ginger soaps. The prices range from 50 cents to $4 depending on their sizes. The soap enterprise has given them a greater understanding of the extent to which market demands influence production and the importance of excellent record keeping and cutomer relationship. They have also gained a deeper understanding of the concept of ‘profit’ by calculating all expenses and deducting the total from the capital they invested. Staff and students have made their first sales to some of our staff.
Well done to all!
Endi Enoma
Welcome back to Term 2.
We had a great start to the term. One highlight for this term is our work experience program at Striker Recreation Centre. Students have undertaken new jobs such as stocking the canteen and cleaning the squash court. We have been learning to use a range of tools and equipment, identified various health and safety signs, as well as developing skills to work in teams.
In our Math program, we have been learning to recognise coins and dollars, adding multiple combination of coins/notes and calculating change. We have integrated money skills into our CBL program where students practise shopping for class items and buying their lunch. They also learn to keep their expenses within the allocated budget. A big focus of our CBL program is to use public transport safely. Students have been practising how to carry their bags, tagging in and out and choosing a safe spot to sit when in the bus or train.
Another big focus this term has been teaching the USTAR value Respect. Students learned what respect looks like and feels like in various settings. Through group activities and role plays, they also identified solutions when they are bullied.
This term, we have integrated functional skills into our Literacy program. Our focus has been to learn to make a sandwich and using public transport. Students have been learning to sequence the steps in making a toasted sandwich and even created a designer sandwich. ESC3 students have been learning how to use Transperth Journey Planner to plan their journey to Garden City.
Despite changes in staffing this term coupled with the resurgence of Covid, I am super proud that our students have stayed the course, remained focussed and learned to be adaptable. These skills will certainly help them in the future.

It has been a fast-paced term and the weeks are flying past so quickly. We started the term off by heading out to Bunnings to engage in a planting herb workshop. As part of the students ASDAN projects, students have been caring for their plant, class plants and taking on the role to care for the Aboriginal Garden. Students have been using the plants and herbs in their cooking and discovering the connection to the Noongar Six Seasons and how nature supplies food, medicine and natural materials that can be used to make tools, homes, and items for everyday sustainable living.
Students have been cooking a variety of different meals and this has provided the opportunity to research recipes, follow a procedure, list ingredients, shop online to calculate the total cost of the recipe and identify the maths embedded in life skills. The students created delicious cheese parcels with native herbs to share at the afternoon tea for the school's New Beginnings to an Old Story event, held in week two. A huge thank you to Ms Palma for running the cooking program and for sharing her expertise.
In week two, we celebrated the annual New Beginnings to an Old Story event. Students engaged in a collective Mural showcasing the school’s fauna and Noongar language, created by local Indigenous artist, Justin Martin from Djurandi Dreaming. We enjoyed learning about Aboriginal artefacts from Greg Nannup from Indigenous Tours WA, actively engaging with sport games with Macca and his students from the Stephen Michaels foundation and followed Aboriginal Symbols Trail around school.
It was a Moorditj (strong/solid) day!
Students have been busy learning many valuable skills during work experience at Striker and will continue to the end of this term, before heading out on a variety of industry visits in term three. We also celebrated four birthdays and enjoyed cake to wish Jai, Sheona, Willem, and Mrs Blacklock a Happy Birthdays! A huge Congratulations to Sheona for receiving the Assembly USTAR Certificate.
Students have been learning Auslan sign and signing, The Acknowledgement to Country and proudly performed at the whole school assembly showcasing the students’ cultural responsiveness on our journey towards reconciliation. A very proud moment!
Students have been working hard on the enterprise projects ready for the school’s Pop Up Shop on 23 June, so save the date along with your pennies and come along and support the students’ fantastic Enterprise projects.
A huge thank you to the incredible ESC 4 students and incredibly dedicated educators Lisa Palma, Katy Blacklock and Jaimee Coles.
Boordawan Lorraine Vann
In ESC 5 this term we have been busily making things to sell out our Pop Up Shop at the end of the term. We have made wind chimes, bubble wands, Chinese drums, and much more. An underlying theme that our class has gone for is ‘upcycle’. A lot of our items have an element of recycling in them. The boys also made mother’s day gifts to take home which looked brilliant. A big thank you must go to Mrs Bruns who has come up with most of the creative ideas for projects.
The class had a fantastic day for the ‘New beginnings to an old story’. The boys all helped out the wonderful Justin Martin painting the fantastic new mural. They listened to a guest speaking give a presentation about indigenous artefacts such as kangaroo pelts and showed the class how to make a quick and easy rope from fresh reeds. They also got to play some indigenous games and sports run by the Stephen Michael Foundation on the oval.
The class voted four a class leader and the honour of the position has gone to Ethan Yan. Congratulations, Ethan!
We enjoyed a fantastic incursion looking into road safety and how students can keep themselves safe. This will assist us in progressing our CBL excursions from the Leeming Forum onto the Bull Creek Shopping Centre later this term.
In Maths the class have been working really hard at improving their money skills. The boys have been working on identifying each of the coins and notes; sorting them out from smallest amount to largest amount; how to make an amount in different coin combinations and how to give change. Their hard work is paying off as I can see improvement across the class.
In Literacy we have just begun a new morning reading routine for the boys to get more reading practice. They have made an excellent start with all the boys giving their full effort.
A huge thank you must go to all of the staff in ESC 5, Mrs Louise, Mr Kosc and Mrs Bruns. Without you the class would not be what it is. We look forward to all the exciting things coming up for the rest of the term and can’t wait to share it all with you.
Brett Limpus
In ESC6 we have been busily preparing for the Pop Up Shops in week 9 where ESC 6 Creations will be selling gift bags, re-usable bags, greeting cards and painted canvases. We also made a variety of Mother’s Day cards and sold these to staff. We love working on our business enterprise and thank you to all the staff for supporting us when we sell cards during the year.
We have taken part in some RAC road safety incursions this term, which were very informative and lots of fun! We practised crossing the road safely and played a quiz show game about pedestrian and vehicle safety. We are looking forward to using our skills as we start catching the bus to Bull Creek for CBL.
We enjoyed the New Beginnings to an Old Story event, especially learning different sport games and taking part in painting the wall mural. We were also very proud of 2 of our students who received the badges as school leaders. Congratulations, Thomas (Class Leader) and Jaylene (House Captain).
In maths we have been focusing on our number skills, particularly at equal and unequal groups and multiplication. In literacy we are focusing on our reading and have settled into a reading routine every Wednesday to focus on our comprehension skills. As part of Person Centred Planning we have looked at what advocacy means, and researched an advocate that has stood up for something that we believe in. We researched a variety of people including Malala Yousavi (Girls Education Advocate), Sophie (Model and Author with Down Syndrome) and Rebecca Burgess (Autistic Artist). We are learning about ways we can advocate for ourselves and for others by sharing our own knowledge and experiences.
We have been enjoying learning how to do footy tipping, and as it stands our top 3 are Jaylene, Ruby R and Sarah – well done girls! Congratulations, also goes to our first Star Award Winner of this term, Gracelyn Higgs.
We are looking forward to the rest of term 2. A big thank you as always to our amazing class staff and to our relief EA who has been in our room full-time for the first half of this term. We love having all your help!
Amber Blackburn
After a well-deserved holiday break, we had an exciting start to our second term of year seven. We began our preparation for Pop Up Shops by brainstorming products to make and sell, voting for a brand name and designing product logos and advertisements to entice our buyers! We were absolutely blown away with the creative and artistic talent we have in the classroom. Students are now working hard to make our product ready to sell for the big day. Please come along and support our enterprise!
In Protective Behaviours, we have been focusing on the Zones of Regulation and using strategies to regulate big feelings and emotions. The students made their own personal toolbox of strategies they can access to self-regulate. We also commenced our Community Based Life-skills module, where students are practising safe road crossing in the school grounds to prepare for CBL excursions into the community next term. It is pleasing to see our students enjoying a research project on the Torres Strait Islands in literacy, which ties into our Bush Ranger modules.
We are keeping very busy in ESC 7 and look forward to more fun events coming up in the year.
Mrs Bartlett, Mrs Maunder, Mrs Buchanan & Mrs C
This term, the students of ESC8 returned to school celebrating Anzac Day. We learned about why we celebrate Anzac Day, what Anzac Day stands for and the different symbols we use today to show respect to the soldiers that lost their lives. We created some beautiful artwork of poppies and Anzac soldiers to display in our class, which look great!
During maths we have continued to focus on measurement this term, telling time to the minute, working on worded timed event problems along with transferable money skills. We have created many engaging maths games in class that we have really enjoyed using with a mix of ICT skills using the ipads.
During literacy, our focus this term has been learning more about nouns, verbs and adjectives and how we can use them in our independent writing activities to further expand students' writing skills. Students have also been improving their reading and comprehension and have been really challenging themselves with some quite tricky texts. Great work guys!
Through the Bush Rangers program students have been learning all about the Bush Ranger code of conduct and the steps of the cadet drills. We have really enjoyed getting outside with Bush Rangers and are doing such a good job at remembering the cadet drill together as a class.
In class we have also begun discussing our Community Based Learning (CBL) program and have been learning about road safety using our school safe road crossing script and reducing risky behaviours on our roads. Students enjoyed a school incursion and are very excited to eventually access our local community as a class.
We have been busily creating products for our Pop Up Shop, this will happen in week 9. Students brainstormed together and decided they would love to make keychains, along with beaded lanyards that we have been making using oven-based clay. We have had a ball being so creative in class this term and students can’t wait to show off what they have created. We also celebrated all the special mums in our lives this term and enjoyed creating some artwork and cookies to show our mums just how much they mean to us.
Bring on the rest of term 2!
Mrs Brennan, Mrs Musson, Mrs Carter, Mrs Cabassi and Mrs Schreiber
ESC9 has seen a great start to term 2 with many more fun and exciting learning and events coming our way. In week 4, we started our term 2 CBL program and travelled to Southlands Boulevard Shopping Centre. I was impressed to see the travel training skills students learned last term, were still being applied when identifying the bus stop, hailing the 516 bus, tagging on and off the bus and moving onto the bus appropriately. This term we are focusing on the Community module from our ASDAN Key Steps program which is all about identifying, locating, and finding out more about the different facilities we have access to in our community. This semester we have learned more about healthcare and transport facilities.
For Mother’s Day we followed a recipe to make a homemade pink vanilla sugar scrub to gift to our mums. We hope the ESC9 mums and grandmas enjoyed their gift and special card!
We are looking forward to the rest of term 2, especially the annual Pop Up Shops in week 9. Stay tuned!
Emma Gage
The start of Term 2 has been a very busy one for us in ESC 10. We have been preparing for our Pop Up Shop stall by coming up with, and making products to sell. We have created a great store name and have also been creating some posters to hang around the school. The students have loved what each other has come up with and are very much looking forward to the day.
As usual cooking class has been a favourite lesson for students making lots of delicious food. At the beginning of the term we were lucky enough to participate in New Beginnings to an Old Story activities. Students enjoyed playing games on the oval, listening to stories about the flora and fauna in our area and doing a scavenger hunt for Aboriginal facts around the school. This was topped off with a picture standing next to the amazing wall mural which each student helped to paint.
Within class we have been busy learning about CBL rules and responsibilities in preparation for when we head to the Leeming shops later in the year. The students have also enjoyed learning about dreamtime stories and healthy eating.
Once again thank you to parents and carers for their support, as well as my class staff in ESC 10.
Jack Drennan
ESC11 has had a fantastic start to Term 2! We have been very busy across several subject areas and have engaged in some fun and informative lessons and activities. One of our highlights has been travelling to Kings Park for an excursion where we had a look at the ANZAC memorial, went for a walk through the Botanical Gardens and identified various native flora found within Western Australia. It was so much fun, and the weather was absolutely beautiful to be out and about.
The boys have also had plenty of opportunities to catch public transport to some places they had never been before such as Perth city and Gateways Shopping Centre. Catching a train to the city was definitely a highlight for the class! Amongst our busy term, we have also been preparing for our class enterprise by going around to the different classes and selling raffle tickets to take a guess at how many lollies are in the lolly jar.
Angelo Calasse and Team
We have reached the middle of the Term, and this is now my second week of being class teacher, for our awesome group of students in ESC12! All students have transitioned through the change admirably, and although they miss Mrs Khosla, they also wish her a safe and quick recovery and return to school. Mrs Khosla will at this stage return to class at the start of Week 10 of this Term. I am very impressed with the maturity of our students.
ESC 12 have been learning about Australian Indigenous Culture, through experiencing Dot paint art, and exploring the Indigenous understanding of Seasons. They have then used what they have learned to create attractive fridge magnets for sale at our Pop Up Shop market in week 9 of Term 2. Students will also be creating artwork to decorate our Pop Up Shop stall, including painting Australian animals such as turtles.
Students have continued Community-Based Learning (CBL) to Southlands Shopping Centre, participated in an excursion to Kings Park, and have demonstrated appropriate behaviours in the community, showing respect to all people they have interacted with. They have enjoyed working as a group to learn about comparing the costs of products at the supermarket, and socialising over their lunch! Travel training is a key part of our CBL and students are getting well practiced with the need to travel independently and as a group.
In Person Centred Planning students have been exploring what the adults around them need to do in their roles at work, and have considered the important skills that are needed to succeed at work. Students have also been clarifying their likes and dislikes with staff, and learning the importance of being able to communicate their needs and preferences to others.
A big thank you to our hardworking EAs, Ms Banks, Ms Mac, Mrs Drinan, Mrs P and Ms L who are a dedicated and positive group of caring professionals. Also thank you parents and carers for working so hard for the well being of your children! Looking forward to a productive remainder of the term with you.
Deepika Khosla and Tim Harries
During the first week back at school this term, ESC 13 students and staff participated in a fun, team building activity - The Great Egg Challenge. This STEAM activity had students design and create their own Egg Crate that would protect a raw egg when dropped from a great height. Students worked beautifully in their teams to create some fantastic ‘Egg Baskets’. One design even included a parachute! This team building exercise turned out to be a huge success, with no eggs broken! It was also a fun way for students and staff to adjust to being back at school after the joys of lazing around all the holidays.
In recent weeks, the students in ESC 13 have been working hard on their P Units in Maths and English. These subjects focus on providing real life English and Maths learning activities which correlate directly with the skills students will use in their everyday lives. The ESC 13 students have shown maturity and responsibility by applying themselves to the challenging academic work we undertake at school, demonstrating grit and determination to complete their work to the best of their ability. Well done guys!
It is also fantastic to see students demonstrating the Leeming SHS ESC USTAR values, both in school, and out in the community. At Workplace Learning, students display self-responsibility by getting themselves ready for work, following instructions at the work placement, and ensuring they are following OHS protocols. When interacting with members of the public and with school staff, students demonstrate 'Respect' by using their manners and ensuring they are using appropriate language. When travelling out on CBL, students demonstrate fantastic 'Teamwork' skills by looking out for each other, helping each other when using public transport and making group decisions through discussion and collaboration.
Well done ESC 13 on such a positive and enthusiastic start to Term 2, keep up the good work.
Rebecca Pumfrey and Team
Students have enjoyed their first combined excursion this term with their fellow ESC year 12 peers. As part of the ASDAN Using Transport Program, the class voted for the place they would most like to visit. Zone Bowling in Cannington had just reopened after being renovated, so students chose this as their first preference.
We were fortunate enough that Mrs Chamberlain drove the school bus and saved us over an hour each way in transport time. This enabled us time to play two games of bowling and enjoy a hot lunch from the café.
Below are what some of the students enjoyed about the excursion:
Zach - I enjoyed the company of my friends and having a good laugh together
Sam - I liked the games, the food and time out of school with my friends
Hanna - I liked the food and bowling a strike
Skye - I had fun and I liked the music
Nathan - I liked listening to music on the bus and eating chips
Aidan – I liked the video games and being with my friends
This term, students are looking forward to their upcoming community-based learning excursions to Fremantle.

Esc 15 has started visiting Perth City during CBL. The students are working towards completing their ASDAN module, Out in the Community. We visited Presotea for a drink and are looking forward to visiting Mi Shanghai for lunch and the museum and art gallery for a trip out on subsequent weeks.
The students showed fantastic maturity on our trip out. They followed their CBL contract and behaved in a safe way. It has been so much fun planning our trips out and I am sure it will be even more fun on our CBL days.
We are also looking forward to market day. We are preparing Kokodama plants for sale. We have had lots of requests for these, so we are very busy preparing lots for the Pop Up Shop.

It has been an eventful start to Term 2 for all students in ESC 16. They have commenced their weekly workplacements with great enthusiam, a strong positive attitude and mindset. The weekly feedback from supporting staff on their efforts and new learning experiences is particularly noteworthy.
I would like to congratulate Raymond Rivera on receiving the Employee of the Month Award, his great work ethic and enthusiastic approach at Ayla Inc truly makes him a worthy recicpent of this award.

We look foward to the rest of Term 2, especially our upcoming Pop Up Shop in week 9.

ESC 17 - STEFFI VARGHESE & MONISHA SUNIL
This term is flying by and it’s hard to believe we are already halfway through Term 2. We have been very busy in ESC 17 getting ready for the Pop Up Shops. Our students are quite excited to show case their items to sell on the day. As part of the enterprise, ESC 17 have also started selling ‘Soup in a Cup’ every week till end of term. The students are enjoying going to each classroom and taking down orders from staff members.
The students also participated in the “New Beginnings to an Old Story” event to celebrate the First Nations People. We had the opportunity to meet Justin Martin and assist him in creating a wall mural. It was a great experience for both staff and students.
As part of CBL, the class has been making fortnightly trips to Southlands Shopping Centre where we are practising locating specific products in Coles and Woolworths.
Our class also had the opportunity to explore Kings Park as part of their Bush Ranger program. We walked around the park, exploring the features of the park and admiring the exquisite flora along the path.
Please enjoy a few photos of our students in action.

This term in Physical Education, students have hit the ground running in multiple new sports, and they are loving it! At the start of the term, our House Captains for the year were officially announced. Congratulations to Oliver Cuff-Cain, Jaylene Michaels, Christopher Greenham, Liam Felstead-Welch, Isaac Wee, Fatima Salman, Jackson Shepherd and Nicholas Fleming on being selected as our 2023 House Captains!
Our Year 7’s and 8’s have started their new sport for the term soccer, learning and practising their passing, dribbling and of course everyone’s favourite shooting. Our chances for the upcoming soccer carnival are looking bright with all of our young Ronaldo’s taking to the field.
Our Year 9’s are lucky enough to continue to work with the Stephen Michael Foundation’s team. They are all participating in their ‘Rising Leaders Program’ teaching them all about leadership skills and incorporating those skills into AFL. It was fair to say that the Year 9 students were ecstatic when they found out they were going to be part of the program for this term.
Our school was lucky enough to have the Stephen Michael Foundation join us for our ‘New Beginnings to an Old Story’ event at the end of week 2, teaching students to play traditional indigenous games with modern materials. It was great to see students engage and learn about how sport has been played for thousands of years by Aboriginals.
Our Year 10’s, 11’s and 12’s are all hunkering down and working hard in their P-Unit work this term. The Year 11’s are enjoying learning football skills and are looking forward to being able to dive into gameplay at the end of the term. The Year 12’s are learning the intricate sport of netball. Students are progressing very quickly with their skills. Well done Year 12’s!
We have loved seeing students’ great attitude and commitment during Physical Education Lessons!

Congratulations to Raymond who is finalising his Certificate II in Retail this term with AYLA. He has been a very valued part of the team since 2021. During this time he has matured, taken on feedback, and worked hard to follow the store processes.
Raymond's confidence increased quickly as he became familiar with his work role and expectations.
A great achievement in year 12. Awesome efforts! Raymond received the Employee of the Month Award at the week 5 assembly.
A special mention to Hanna Stapel for her superstar work this semester:
Hanna has had a very enthusiastic and positive attitude each week at the Good Sammy retail store. She follows instructions and attempts all allocated tasks. Hanna has done an amazing job sorting all of the toys in the store. Hanna should be so proud of herself!
The Brandon’s Shredding Bunker has been bustling this term. Isaiah, Nekoda, and Shane have been valued team members each week. All students have been highly motivated to the task at hand. They have all been really enjoying the special group morning teas too!
It was lovely for the team at AH Bracks to recognise all of Raggy’s work contributions this semester. Raggy received a special gift to celebrate National Volunteers Week. It is great to see students acknowledged within our local community.
We are currently underway with semester 2 placement planning! We love working in partnerships with families to support student My Plan goals. Each placement provides an opportunity to broaden student’s skill sets and for them to gain a variety of experiences in different industry settings.
Thank you families for the ongoing support, we really appreciate it.
