COVID -19
It has been a challenging time for everyone due to the COVID Pandemic and I would like to sincerely thank the school community for their ongoing support. Staff have been incredibly flexible, making sure our students continue to engage in their school programs, disruptions are minimalised and routines maintained as much as possible.
RATs were distributed on Thursday 19th May and Monday 23rd May. Students who have been absent from school on these days will receive their 20 free RATs when they return to school. Thank you for keeping your children home if they are unwell. If students test positive for COVID, they must complete 7 days isolation.
School Review
Earlier this year, our school underwent a School Review process. This involved collating information and feedback from all stakeholders in our school community. It highlighted and validated our strengths in Relationships and Partnerships and Learning Environment. What we do very well involves people and community, building connections within the school and broader community, this was strongly reflected in our evidence.
During the school review interviews with students, both past and present, students enthusiastically spoke of their school experience and highly value the range of opportunities they have been able to access during their time at Leeming SHS ESC. It was a very positive process, the full School Review report can be found on our new website under Publications. About Us - Leeming SHS Education Support Centre (leemingesc.wa.edu.au)
Valued Lives
Year 12 and 13 students have been involved in a Valued Lives pilot program this semester. Valued Lives is an NDIS Registered Provider who received a grant to support students and their families as part of a pilot program to undertake a Discovery process.

Each week students work with Ms Franceschini-Piil, and members of the Valued Lives team to identify their interests and talents, available resources, skills gaps, and natural networks that will support the development of meaningful and sustainable employment or self-employment opportunities. The information gathered is used to develop a comprehensive discovery record that can be shared with current providers and therapists, to support the next stage of their transition from school. This has been an exciting pilot program and we are very fortunate to have a team of passionate staff from Valued Lives share their wealth of experience and knowledge with staff, students and families.

Since the beginning of 2019, the School Board has championed the School Community Project to support members of the school community who are finding everyday things challenging. Many families and students have been helped in the past four years.
This support is tangible - providing breakfast, lunches and clothing. This project is ably managed by our School Chaplain, Vangi.
The present requirement for items include:
- margarine
- cheese slices
- 2 minute noodles
- sliced bread
Vangi is able to source much of this from Foodbank however as I am sure you will understand supply chain interruptions are causing shortages of particular items.
The School Board encourages you to put some of these groceries into your weekly shopping and when convenient for you, deliver them to the front office reception of ESC.
The Board will meet again on Monday 13th June.
Kind regards to you all,
Digby Claydon

This term we have started meeting as the Leeming SHS ESC Student Leadership Group. We meet in the conference room every second Friday to discuss things we can do at Leeming, different events we can organise, clubs and activities, making the school more wheelchair accessable including sports and representing all of the students at Leeming.
We would like to to do more things with mainstream like the Pyjama day we joined in on today. The mainstream student coucil organised the event as part of Mindfulness in May, a mental health initiative. Our two student councillors, Oscar and Isaac helped organise the day. Some of the activities we are brainstorming are RC car racing and robotics for STEAM, these would be inclusive and allow all students, of all abilities to participate. Some of the roles we already do as class leaders are; inform our classes and the school of events, demonstrate exemplary behaviour as we are the role models, uphold the USTAR values and help out across the school.
Owen Edwards, Ruby Rolph, Christopher Greenham, Aisha Lee, Riley Green, Christian Manning, Rohan Moir, Philip Ugle, Patrick Robb, Cameron Crnobrnja, Branden Mccaw, Luke Koza, Raymond Rivera, Madison McAuliffe, Jake Enever & Jone Potgieter.

This year, on Friday the 4th March, we buried our Time Capsule to commemorate LEEMING ESC’S 25TH ANNIVERSARY.
Classes contributed an item for the Time Capsule. Among these were letters to future students, class photographs, students’ favourite memories of Leeming ESC, a t-shirt with student’s self-portraits, a school shirt, a Bush Ranger’s cap, a Workplace shirt, a Yearbook and a Leeming ESC Compass.
A plaque has been made to place on the wall outside our Administration building entrance, where the Time Capsule has been placed.
We hope that many years from now, when the Time Capsule is dug up, that future staff and students will enjoy the contents inside. And learn about our Leeming ESC school community, and what it was like to be here in 2021.
Here, you can see Mrs Davies, Mr Zivkovic, Ms Rieutska and the Horticulture students preparing to bury the Time Capsule.
Once again we have been very busy and having plenty of fun, during our recess and lunch program, Leeming Link.
Here is some of what we have been up to this term: Making ANZAC Poppies, Giant Dominoes, Making Storm Trooper Masks for the 4th of May, Mother’s Day Cards, ( hope you liked these Mums), Shaving Cream Fun – a firm favourite, Celebrity Heads (guessing which food we were), Balloon and Paper Plate Race, and to take us to the halfway mark of term, participating in the Biggest Morning Tea!

Leeming Link is our social skills program which gives our students the opportunity to take part in a variety of structured activities and games. This is held during both recess and lunch on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. The Term 2 Leeming Link Timetable has been added to the newsletter for you to have a look at. Every class has an A3 copy in their classroom so that students can see what is on for each Leeming Link day.
Enjoy the photos of students participating at Leeming Link.
Kind regards,
Ms Stewart & Ms Vangi

As the winter months roll around, things are continuing to go full speed in ESC1. We have started the term by learning about choices and consequences in our preliminary literacy program. We are learning to separate the natural consequences of our behaviour from logical consequences and learning to identify positive and negative consequences of our decisions. We have used this opportunity to review our classroom rules, and identify why these rules are important to keep ourselves and others safe. We are learning about planning trips to the local community as part of our mathematics and ASDAN program. This term, we are planning a trip out to get something to eat. Our students, who are enrolled in the mathematics foundation unit, are learning about graphs and converting results to other forms of statistical measurement, such as percentages or degrees of a pie chart.
Work experience and the ADWPL program continues to be a success, as our students have been able to return to their placements after some were postponed last term. It is fantastic to see the excitement students have for sharing their experiences at the work place.
Mr Frewer, Mrs Carter, Mrs Enright and Mrs Long.
With term 2 off to a quiet start, we had a full class of students again by week 3. We settled back into our much loved routines including STEAM class with Mr Hatchett. Whilst we have been busy designing a school star mobile to hang up in our administration foyer, we have also been learning about the art of puppetry and how puppets are designed. We all learned very quickly that we are great puppeteers, especially when it comes to Sesame Street characters!

We are back into the swing of Workright at Strikers demonstrating great team work skills. We are self confidence by doing tasks independently without direction or instructions from supervisor/teachers… and what a fab job we are doing!
We are also gearing up to start CBL (Community Based Learning) as of next week at Garden City, but are unsure who is more excited, the teachers or the students!
Last, but not least, we are looking forward to getting our creativity hat on and putting plans into place for one of our favourite days of the year ‘Pop up Shop’ day. Bring it on!
Mr Holdsworth, Ms Payne, Ms Brayne, Ms Putland and Ms Munza.
Welcome back to Term 2. Despite a cautious start to the term, everyone in ESC 3 did extremely well in handling the changes resulting from the COVID restrictions. We are continuing our work at Striker Recreation Centre and are currently working on new jobs. We have started stocking the canteen and cleaning the gym. We have been learning to use a range of tools and equipment, identifying various health and safety signs and learning to work in teams.
In our Math program, we have been learning to add multiple combinations of coins/notes and calculating change. With the commencement of our CBL (Community Based Learning) program, students have had the opportunity in practising shopping and money skills by looking for items to purchase within a budget.
This term, we have integrated functional skills into our Literacy program. Our focus has been to learn to make a sandwich and using public transport. Students have been learning to sequence the steps in making a toasted sandwich and even created a designer sandwich. ESC3 students have been learning how to use Transperth Journey Planner to plan their journey to Cockburn Gateway.

With the changes in staffing this term, I am super proud that our students have stayed the course, remained focussed and learned to be adaptable. All these skills will certainly help them in the future.
From the ESC 3 team
Ms Parwani, Mrs Johnson, Mrs Hales, Mrs Mahalingam and Mrs Shivers
ESC 4 has started the term with a big focus on preparing for our fortnightly CBL (Community Based Learning) excursions. We are all looking forward to getting out into the community! Our students have had many opportunities to explore the Transperth wesbite and plan journeys around Perth to destinations of their choice. We linked these activities into our maths and coding skills, and took turns ‘coding’ each other around the school, using verbal and visual directions. We were pleasantly surprised with the robot dance moves that came along with this activity!

Tuesdays are dedicated to our ASDAN Workright program, which means our day consists of signing into work, checking our personal presentation, practising daily hygiene routines, time keeping, following safety rules, keeping our environment clean, packing away equipment safely (without prompting), and demonstrating what it is to be a good team member. We have been discussing the importance of looking out for your co-workers and finding ways to ‘work smarter not harder’ as a team. It has been wonderful to see the increased kindness and consideration towards each other in both the work place and the classroom.
We have a busy term ahead and look forward to sharing the exciting activities we get up to.
Miss Arndt, Miss Riley, Miss Hamel and Mrs Maunder.
Mathematics: We have continued to adopt broad approaches to mathematics instruction this term, covering some elements of mental maths and functional mathematics (within the domains of number facts and measurement skills). In mental maths, my students always looked forward with excitement and anticipation to their mental maths drills at the start of each maths lesson. This component of my maths lessons provides students with the opportunities to work independently and recall number facts speedily but within their individual capabilities. Additionally, some students have been working on their times tables and three-digit subtraction problems while others have been using visual and concrete materials to solve mathematical problems. For the latter cohort of students, they have employed these learning occasions to advance their measurement skills and practise calculating the perimeters and areas of some two-dimensional shapes.
English/Humanities and Social Sciences: “You learn to read by reading”, “You learn to write by writing” and “Education for life” have been the underlying principles on which our literacy instruction hinges this term. Students have been participating in various literacy activities including repetitive spelling exercises, phonics, reading comprehension (for students to identify the who, what, when, where and why of a text during reading) and opinion writing. As part of their creative writing, some students have written stories on various topics while others have been working on different sentence starters for their opinion writing. As a class, students researched and compiled information on the recipe for homemade lip balm which they gifted to their respective mothers during the recently celebrated Mother’s Day. The Year 7.1 students also embarked on daily morning writing activities to improve on their individual writing skills.

Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) and Bush Ranger Cadet Program's
This term, our students have dedicated their time to learning about the values of ‘Achievement’ and ‘Respect’. Students learned that achievement is about having a growth mindset. For example, “I can do hard things”, I won’t give up”, I’m getting smarter everyday”, mistakes help me grow” and so on. These positive attitudes have helped our students to climb up the steps of their academic ladder. Learning about Respect, students brainstormed various ways of showing respect to others in different contexts of social engagements. These include “listening to staff”, “following school rules”, “waiting our turns” and “using good manners” amongst others.
The Bush Ranger Cadet students expanded their command drills this semester to include ‘Attention’, “At Ease”, “Fall in”, “Fall out” and so on. These drills were implemented at the beginning of each Bush Ranger lesson. As part of their efforts to promote environmental awareness and protection, the cadet students explored ways of reducing littering on the school ground. They created eye-catching posters, conveying striking messages that were designed to discourage littering on the school ground and encourage sustainable environmental use. Great job Year 7.1 cadet students - I am very the industrious attitude you all demonstrated this semester.
Mrs Enoma, Ms Temple, Ms Banks, and Ms Broadhurst.
Term 2 in ESC6 started out with us getting busy making Mother’s Day gifts for our wonderful Mums! We learnt a message in sign language and filmed this to put on SeeSaw for our Mums to watch.
In English this term we are focusing on narrative writing. We have been going to the library and looking at how different authors describe the characters and settings in their books. We have also practised writing about characters and settings using describing words. Later this term we will become authors and write our own stories! In Maths, we are learning about time and have carried out an investigation about how long it takes to do different tasks.
During our wellbeing lessons, we have been focusing on celebrating diversity, learning about different people, cultures, bodies, brains, communication, clothes and more! We have designed posters celebrating all of the differences we see in our school.

We are also very excited about the commencement of one of our student’s therapy dog called "Hope" in our class room. We are very happy to have "Hope" as a new class member in ESC6!
Miss Blackburn, Ms Musson, Miss Sutherland and Mrs Bregger.
ESC 7 has had a fantastic start to term 2, continuing our work on places to visit around the world, language and cultures, and caring for our environment. Last term, we looked at Auslan and Key Word Sign Australia as a way to communicate inclusively within our classroom. This term, to continue the theme of inclusive language, we are leaning some Noongar Aboriginal words and numbers as well as some Noongar Aboriginal songs. The students have been excited to show off their new language skills and use them with each other in the classroom.

Now that restrictions have eased slightly, we are kicking off our CBL (Community Based Learning) adventures again and combining it with our cooking skills. The students are choosing an international recipe and then purchasing their ingredients at the local shops in Bull Creek. Then at school, the students have been cooking their ingredients and turning them into a fantastic international dish as part of their ASDAN modules. While on CBL (Community Based Learning) they have also been using appropriate behaviours on the bus and in the shops, which is great to see. Well done ESC 7!
Ms Chambers, Ms Smith, Mrs Chamberlain, Ms Jones
Wanjoo!
“We acknowledge the Whadjuk people of the Noongar nation as the traditional custodians of the land and its waters and pay respect to their elders, past, present and emerging.”
This term, the students have been learning about litter pollution and the harm litter can cause to humans, animals, and their environments. First, we investigated Wetland habitats and now our focus is on litter in the ocean and marine debri that washes up on the sand. As part of this Bush Ranger project, students and families will be invited to participate in an exciting excursion on Thursday 9th June. Please save the date on your calendar and more information will be sent home soon.
Students have been researching their family tree background and discovering many diverse cultures among their classmates. Thank you to families that have sent through family photos and answered interview questions. This information will greatly enhance the student’s presentation that will be compiled later in the term.

As part of Community Based Learning, students have been moving around in the local Leeming area, observing signs, practising road crossings and making purchases at Leeming Shopping Centre. These experiences expand student’s awareness, safety, functional literacy and numeracy skills. The students are to be commended on their resilience, independence, teamwork and kind manners.
I also wish to acknowledge and thank the great ESC 8 team, Mrs Louise, Mr C and Mrs Xavier because their hard work and dedication makes all the difference. Thank you!
Mrs Vann, Mrs Louise, Mr C and Mrs Xavier.
ESC 9 has seen a great start to term 2 with many more fun and exciting learning and events coming our way. In week 1, across HASS and Literacy, we learned about ANZAC Day and the importance of the special day. We read The Last ANZAC by Gordon Winch and used Teams on our iPads to view a PowerPoint presentation about ANZAC day, and answer who, what, when and why questions. We also read ANZAC Ted, by Belinda Landsberry, and completed a directed drawing of our very own ANZAC Teds.

In week 3, we started our CBL (Community Based Learning), focusing on identifying safe places to cross a road. We learned that the first step of the Road Crossing Script is to ‘find a safe place’, which can include pedestrian crossings, zebra crossings and with a Lollipop person. This term our CBL program will be preparing us for our Semester 2 program where we will travel out to the community to practise our travel and shopping skills.
In HASS, we learned about the history of Mother’s Day and the traditions we follow with our own mums each year. We made cards, portraits of our mums and scented lavender bags to gift to our mums. We hope the ESC 9 mums enjoyed their gifts and special card!

Miss Gage, Ms Sajjay, Ms Mitchell and Miss Chatfield.
The start of this term has seen these Year 8 students take on new tasks with determination. In Phys Ed, they are learning soccer, in Science we are learning about energy and how it transforms and in Music, how to play the piano and guitar. Some of these activities are new to a few of our students and it has been so pleasing to see them persevere.
This week, we arrived at school to discover we have brand new benches and the news is; they are comfy to sit on and have a chat! Check out some photos below.

On Tuesday this week, our students are most excited to welcome all parents and visitors back to our assemblies in the Performing Arts centre. It’s been a long time since we have all been together! We are glad to see you there :)
Ms Knox, Miss Russell, Mrs T-J and Mrs Palma.
We had an awesome term 1 in ESC 11, and together we’ve kept the momentum rolling straight into term 2! At the beginning of the term we had some truly epic stories from the holidays from both staff and students. It sounded like everyone enjoyed their well-deserved time off.
We’ve kicked off our jam packed term, running some cool and interesting activities including, writing to our pen pals all the way over in ESC 4, travelling to Kings Park to learn about parks and reserves, while keeping an eye out for some native flora and fauna along the way. We are currently in the early stages of using clay to mould and create our very own Rainbow Serpents to go along with our Dreamtime stories that we have been reading and learning about in HASS.

The term has started wonderfully and we are all eagerly anticipating the many things we have planned for the remainder of this semester.
Mr Calasse, Mrs Bruns, Mrs Harcourt and Mrs Hewer.
ESC 12 students have been very busy this term learning different cultures. They are learning to greet and count 1-10 in Hindi and played and an Indian board game called Carrom board. They have also been exploring the Aboriginal culture through Dreamtime stories, music and art. ESC 12 students went on a treasure hunt during Bush Rangers looking for Aboriginal signs to decode a story. It sure was a fantastic hunt and the students then made up their own stories using the signs. The students went to Kings Park to study native flora and fauna, saw the Boab tree, went to the ANZAC memorial and learnt that Kings Park is a meeting place for the Aboriginal elders.

In STEAM, the students made a volcano using recycled materials. Then they used household ingredients found in the kitchen to mix them and see if a chemical reaction takes place. They mixed water, dish-washing liquid, vinegar, red food colour and soda bicarbonate to make a volcano with red lava coming out. In numeracy, students have been practising their money and time skills.
In PCP, they are getting ready to interview a staff member from the school as part of their ASDAN. The students have been showing USTAR values of Team Work, Unity and Self-responsibility throughout the term. They have also shown resilience with the changes happening to the timetable and staffing during Covid, and surviving the first five weeks of the Term 2, Well Done ESC 12!

A big thankyou to my awesome team, Mrs Owen, Ms Brewer and Mrs Blacklock for working tirelessly and covering for each other during absences.
Mrs Khosla, Ms Owen, Ms Brewer, and Ms Blacklock.
It has been an interesting transition back to school after the April school holidays, and despite a few days of readjustment, the students in ESC 13 are now back into the full swing of things.
This year, a focal point of learning has been PBS, with Leeming SHS ESC becoming a Positive Behaviour School. In our classrooms and around the school, the focus is to concentrate on positive aspects of school, the classroom and individual participation. The acronym for this at Leeming ESC is USTAR – which stands for Unity, Self-Responsibility, Teamwork, Achievement and Respect. We explore these key principles through our daily practices and in weekly, formal lessons in class. As part of becoming a cohesive and supportive classroom, we have worked on the skill of Teamwork, engaging in fun, team building activities. Our most recent team challenge involved breaking the class into groups, with each group competing to build the highest tower, using only wooden skewers and marshmallows. Students developed their team working skills through communication, listening, sharing ideas, and helping each other. It was a chaotic, sticky, and messy business with multiple failures. But we all had great fun working together in teams to see who could build the tallest tower. In the end, after all the excitement, the highlight was eating the leftover marshmallows! As we continue through the term, the next PBS focus area is Achievement.
In class, we will continue to explore what achievement means and how we can strive to achieve small and big goals, through the setting of goals and perseverance.

Ms Pumfrey, Ms Soares, Ms Hugo.
During Literacy, students created posters and Ebooks to summarise what they have learnt about consequences of rule breaking in the community. These were then shared with the class. In Maths, students prepared themselves for upcoming CBL (Community Based Learning) outings by practising their money skills. This involved tendering enough money and working out change from purchases. Students also used the TransPerth journey planner to create a travel plan to Garden City. This involved working out travel time, bus and train lines used and identifying platforms.
Students were able to go to Leeming Forum this term. Prior to their visit, they researched the food outlets available and planned which drink they would like to purchase as part of their ASDAN, "Out in the Community program". It was great to see their growing independence when placing their orders, tendering their money, and using their manners when collecting their chosen beverage.

Mrs Megrail, Mrs Morgan, Miss Bregger and Mrs Tan.
We have had a great start to term 2 in ESC15. Students have been working hard and showing great attitudes towards their learning.
It has been amazing to hear all the positive feedback from the students workplaces. There has been lots of great skills and determination displayed. Keep up the good work! A big shout out to Tyeisha Bedford who shone at workplace the end of last term and received an award for best employee, well done to you Tyeisha!
Our students have been working hard at their preliminary Maths and Literacy units and have showed great understanding of elapsed time, understanding graphs, paragraph structure and adding their own work skills to an E-book to assist with resume writing.
Through the Bush Rangers program this term, students have enjoyed learning about first aid and CPR. We have had lots of practical scenarios to assist our learning and hope to have a visit from the School nurse this term to observe basic first aid and learn how to bandage in certain situations. We have also enjoyed learning about the six noongar seasons, students have really loved getting creative with this and looking at variations of aboriginal art. We really look forward to learning more from this area throughout the rest of the term.
We had a great excursion across to IGA and then lunch at Emperors Kitchen. We used our budget at IGA effectivly and put thought into the ingredients we were buying. The next day, we independently made ham and cheese toasties in class.
Mrs Brennan, Ms Patterson, Ms Lester-Smith and Ms Close.
Hello Parents & Carers
I hope everybody enjoyed the holidays. They seem like a distant memory now. While COVID is still having a significant impact on our work and school lives we have managed to avoid it quite well in ESC 17.
We have a very busy Term 2, which started with the students making some wonderful candles to give to their mothers, and grandmothers, to show their appreciation on Mother’s Day. The students have also travelled to Kings Park to learn about parks and reserves while keeping an eye out for some native flora and fauna along the way. We have also been learning about different Dreamtime Stories in HASS and the students have made very creative Rainbow Serpents out of clay and natural products from the garden.
The students have done such a great job at participating in each lesson and showing a willingness to come to school, have fun and learn. I would like to thank all parents, carers and my wonderful team in ESC 17 for their continued support throughout the year.
Mr Drennan, Mrs Murugan, Mrs Buchanan, Mrs Botha.
PHYS ED - RECHELLE HAWKES, JENNA ALLOMES & JENELLE HEARD
We have been lucky enough to secure WADSA (Western Australia Disabled Sports Association) to deliver a Telethon grant project called Eco Explorers to some of our Year 7 and Year 8 classes. Eco Explorers is an innovative project designed to enhance the lives of students with complex needs through geocaching and conservation. Eco Explorers is unique in its approach, having an app designed specifically for these students by working in conjunction with adaptive equipment, thus promoting a range of physical and mental health benefits.
The objectives of the program include increased social cohesion, confidence and problem-solving skills and decreased anti-social behaviour. The opportunity to engage with their peers and environment in a fun and challenging way will increase confidence and encourage the students to continue to engage in this way outside of the project.

Miss Heard, Miss Allomes, Ms Hawkes, Ms McFarlane and Ms Pereira.
WORK PLACE LEARNING - SARAH LOMAX
Senior students are to be commended for their contributions and efforts, as they practise industry skills within a variety of workplaces.
Here’s what a few of the superstars have to say about their current experiences:
Ezra – Horticulture: “I go to Willetton Community Garden. I watered the plants. I pulled out weeds. I enjoyed doing these tasks”.
Henry – Automotive: “My favourite job is sanding the bumpers on the vehicles with my supervisor. I like using the sanding machine”.
David – Retail “The Op Shop is great. I like sorting the books and sorting shirts and sorting toys and sorting shoes. I like to talk to other workers while I eat my lunch”.
Luka – ’I worked at the front counter and take orders from customers, one customer ordered 2 ham and cheese croissants and a coffee. My supervisor also asked me to deliver food to tables and I was very focused when I did this’.
It was a pleasure to award the "Employee of the Month" to Luka Oroz. Luka has displayed resilience across two industry settings through challenging times in the aged care and hospitality industries. He has had a positive attitude and tried to the best of his ability when on site at these placements. Luka has been actively involved in learning work skills through the school based program on the occasions that he has not been able to engage in his offsite placements.

A special mention to Jayelan who has been engaging in multiple presentations this year with a variety of corporations in the community. This term, Jayelan experienced a new online platform for his presentation with the City of Cockburn. Ongoing feedback from all of these presentations has been that they are very informative. Jayelan’s advocacy is broadening community awareness. An achievement he should be so very proud of. We are very grateful to Jayelan for sharing his personal story, it truly is such an inspiration.
Note to senior students....Don’t forget your wet weather gear for travelling to and from work!!
Welcome to our two new additions to "Cluckingham Palace".....Or....Duckingham palace....
Donald and Daisy kindly donated by Shariff, our school head cleaner. The pair have settled in nicely, swimming in the new mini pool.

Physical Assistance Dog in ESC 6
Hope is a five year old Labrador and is trained as a Physical Assistance dog. She supports her owner to complete tasks such as picking up and carrying items, and pressing buttons at traffic lights. Hope will attend ESC 6 every Friday for two hours per week until the end of term, but this may be extended as the year progresses. As with all working dogs, Hope will wear her coat when she in work mode. In the coming weeks, students at our school will visit ESC 6 to meet Hope and learn appropriate ways to interact with an assistance dog.
Some things for students to remember:
- If Hope is wearing her jacket she is working and should not be touched
- Always ask an adult if it is okay to touch Hope
- If her jacket is off, approach Hope from the front and rub her back
If your child has a dog phobia or is allergic to animal fur or dander, please contact your child’s teacher.
