One of the highlights this term was the athletics carnival in week 8, I thoroughly enjoyed seeing all the students participating so well and looking amazing in their bright House colours. The after school athletics sessions during the term proved to be very beneficial, the students looked like professional athletes on the day! A big thank you to Ms Heard and Ms Allomes for your excellent organisation, the carnival ran very smoothly, students had smiles on their faces and enjoyed the day.
Term 4 is going to be very busy and exciting with a number of camps, excursions and our Annual Pop Up Shops. We will also be celebrating our graduating students of 2020. This year we have our largest number of senior students transitioning from school, due to the large numbers and COVID restrictions there will be two Graduation Dinners for our year 12 and 13 students.
- Ms Stewart’s class Thursday 19th November
- Ms Parwarni and Ms Megrail’s classes Thursday 26th
This will also be the final day of school for these students in 2020. A special thank you to parents for organising a raffle to fund raise for the Graduation Dinner. The donations have been very generous; we are very lucky to have such a supportive group of parents. The prizes have been advertised on facebook and in this newsletter, there are a number of baskets with vouchers up $300 and lots of other amazing goodies. If you would like to purchase tickets, please see Tarryn or Lee at the administration office. Two prizes will be drawn at the end of week 10 term 3 and the rest of the prizes will be drawn next term.
Our graduating students have been working extra hard this term making the most of their opportunities, preparing themselves for a future beyond school. Through a very challenging and difficult year, these students have achieved amazing outcomes with many students gaining employment, completing certificate qualifications and developing exciting plans and goals for the future through the My Plan process. To celebrate their time at Leeming SHS ESC, there will be a special Leavers assembly on Monday 9th November. With the easing of COVID restrictions, we will hopefully be able to return to full functioning assemblies with parents and special guests.
We have enjoyed some very special staff celebrations during this term. Ms Hodge enjoyed a beautiful wedding and is now Mrs Radonich. Our baby boom has continued this year and Dawn Sutherland will be leaving us at the end of term, we look forward to the safe arrival of her baby girl at the end of the year. Ms Coates will be replacing Mrs Sutherland for the remainder of the 2020 school year.
On Monday 26th October 2:00pm – 3:00pm, we will be hosting our Annual Open Meeting with the School Board. This will be an opportunity to showcase our 2020 achievements and discuss future directions through our school Business Plan. There will be more information provided in early next term and we look forward to seeing you there.
I hope you all enjoy your well-deserved holiday break and come back recharged for a busy term 4.
Your school board met on 7th September and we had a very useful discussion led by David Koutsoukis in the ways we can promote and engage our school community in our 2020 - 2022 Business Plan. We appreciated David's expertise and insights and he left us with some extremely useful ideas to explore.
We had a presentation from Caitlyn Knox on STEM and how it is integrated into the school curriculum. We were then joined by two students - Harvey and Oscar - who gave a wonderful demonstration to the Board how Bee Bot's work. Our thanks to them especially.
The Board was given an overview by Ms FP on the Parent Workshop being held on 10th September covering NDIS Planning, and an update on capital works around the school campus.
We discussed our 3rd Annual Open Meeting to be held on Monday October 26th at 2:00pm and I encourage as many of the school community to attend as possible.
Thank you.

It is hard to believe we are already 3 terms down in our school year! We have had a busy and productive time this term, which has been packed full of exciting programs.
We have been taking part in the Notre Dame sports program every Friday morning. Our students have really enjoyed participating in a range of sports and getting to know their Notre Dame buddies. A huge thank you to the Phys Ed team for coordinating this program, it has been hugely successful and a real highlight for our students. We also recently attended the 2020 athletics carnival which was great fun and a fantastic chance to show off our sporting ability.
Several of our students have been going to the Dismantle Bike Repair program. This has given our students the opportunity to salvage old bikes, change the bike parts and paint the bike to make it look and feel as good as new. As a bonus, the students are able to keep their bikes which we are all very excited to see. Those who stay at school have been practising their work skills by completing a school recycling program. The students travel across the school to the different departments to collect their recycling paper, which we then shred and distribute to those who would like some.
We have been visiting Cockburn Gateway for our CBL trips. This has given us the opportunity to safely ride buses and trains and navigate the community. It has also given us the chance to practice our shopping skills by searching for particular items and calculating their cost.
We would like to wish all of our students and families a safe and happy holiday break. We look forward to seeing you again in term 4!
This term ESC 4 has been busy and productive. We had the 2020 Athletics Carnival in September which was held on a beautiful sunny day and the students who attended participated in many events and had a sausage sizzle or a hamburger for lunch.
Community Based Learning has consisted of catching both buses and trains to get to Rockingham Shopping Centre. The class has enjoyed getting out into the community and in particular the travel on public transport. For our end of term group activity, we are going 10 pin bowling in the last week and everyone is very excited.

Weekly workplace learning has meant that the students have maintained and improved their work skills and everyone has attended regularly and gained so much learning and greatly enjoyed their placements. Now that the weather is warming up, please remember to apply sunscreen to protect your child, and ensure that a school cap is provided as we are seeing many non-uniform hats at school.
Our Notre Dame sports program has continued the term with great success. The students are having fun with their buddies and improving their fitness. Thanks again to the ESC 4 staff, Mrs Johnson, Mrs Banks, Mrs Lester Smith, Mrs Blaxell, Mrs Brayne and Mrs Morgan, who have all worked harder than ever this term.

Art classes have shown some great creativity from the class, students have shown great enthusiasm, creating some beautiful work.
All in all, the students have embraced term 3 with enthusiasm and lots of fun (and hard work) along the way. Have a wonderful, relaxing holiday with your loved ones.
Our class has had the most enjoyable experiences this term.
As part of our Bush Ranger program we enjoyed an amazing day at Bickley Outdoor Recreation Camp. The year 7 cadets planted 750 Sedges with Jayson from South East Regional Centre for Urban Landcare (SERCUL). These plants provide a habitat and food for many animals on the land and in the water. Every student engaged in the activities and it was very rewarding to see their achievements!

We had a ‘SciTech’s Lab on Legs Incursion and the students engaged in the ‘Rookie Robotics and Coding’ workshop. The students learnt how to code and program a robotic vehicle, teaching it how to complete tasks using sensors! The students applied their IT skills to quickly become experts in coding their robots to follow their commands. A valuable learning experience that was enjoyed by everyone.
An awesome Athletics Carnival and an end of term excursion to Bibra Lake. Wow! What an awesome few weeks.

Gurman: On one day we planted sedges for the birds because the birds and trees are in danger of people cutting them down and then there is no food for the birds and they are looking for food.
Phillip: I really enjoyed the Bird Project and counting the birds when on CBL.
Evan: This term, my class have been doing CBL. We walked to Hartree Park near West Leeming Primary School. We were counting how many birds were in the trees.
Samuel: This term I have really enjoyed learning about threatened species especially the numbat.
Coby: I liked robot and coding on Scitech Incursion.
Billy: Robot designs have been interesting and cool for SciTech to come to school.
Thomas: Our class went to Bickley to planted sedges. I liked collecting the pots.
Isaac: Our class programed robots to do moves and drive on the lines.
Thank you to best group of students and teachers.
I like to acknowledge the dedication, hard work and the caring hearts of Ms L, Mrs Blacklock and Ms Smith. Thank you! Lorraine Vann
Term 3 has come to an end, and what another fabulous term it was! One of the highlights has been starting our Community Based Lifeskills (CBL) program. This year we have been busy practising the Leeming ESC road crossing script within the classroom and in the staff carpark, and have now ventured out and followed and used the script on surrounding roads, while walking to Leeming Forum Shopping Centre. We are also learning to check for reversing cars when crossing driveways, and sticking to the left hand side when walking on footpaths. Inside the shopping centre we have been focusing on community behaviours and shopping skills. We have been locating our ‘safe spot’, identifying emergency exit and toilet signs, using the aisle signs to locate common shopping items and finding and reading price tags at the local IGA. After our activity in the centre, we have enjoyed walking to a nearby park to eat our lunch and have a play on the playground. We can’t wait to further our CBL skills and begin using public transport in term 4!

In week 6, the year 7 classes had the opportunity to volunteer our time, and participate in a Bush Ranger planting excursion. We travelled to Bickley Outdoor Recreation Centre, via bus, and as a team we planted 750 sedge plants altogether! It was fantastic to use our core Bush Ranger qualities, including teamwork, and help conserve the environment by preventing erosion and creating habitats for animals by planting the sedges along the water.

In week 7, we put our chef hats on and made Father’s Day rocky road for the dads and father figures in our lives. It was delicious, and we hope all the ESC 6 dads and father figures enjoyed their ‘secret stash’.
In week 8 we participated in the Leeming SHS athletics carnival. It was such a fantastic day, and I was so proud to see all of ESC 6 try their absolute best during the team games and running races.

We are looking forward to a busy, but exciting, term 4 and will soon be preparing for the Leeming ESC Pop-Up Shops and our year 7 camp to Point Peron! Stay tuned.
Happy holidays, everyone!
Emma Gage.
Here are the term 3 student highlights below:

Archer:
Hello everyone from Mrs Sutherland and the staff and students of ESC 7.
As we approach the end of Term 3, we are enjoying the beautiful, sunny weather that Spring has brought us. As a class we have been making the most of opportunities to get outside in the fresh air and be active – from taking morning walks on the oval to playing outdoor games. A highlight of this term was of course the Sports Carnival, our students loved getting into the competitive spirit and wearing their house colours proudly! A huge thank you to the Sports staff for organising yet another fantastic carnival, a great day was had by all.
ESC 7 also celebrated some special occasions this term – Mrs Sutherland’s baby shower and Miss Hodge becoming Mrs Radonich. We are both extremely grateful and overwhelmed by the kindness and generosity shown to us by our students, parents and colleagues. Thank you!
A final few words from me before I embark upon maternity leave and my new role as a mum – it has been an absolute joy to be part of such a great classroom this year. I would like to personally thank my wonderful EAs and friends; Chloe, Lisa & Torii, for all their invaluable support of not only our students, but also me as a new teacher to the school. Your hard work, dedication and kindness has not gone unnoticed. Thank you to my students for being caring and making me laugh every single day – I will miss you and already can’t wait to come back and visit with my new baby. Also to the ESC 7 parents, thank you for your excellent communication and always being so cooperative and supportive. I hope everyone has a lovely holiday break and remainder of the school year – see you soon!
Can’t believe that we have completed three terms and we are heading towards the last leg of this year! The students in ESC 8 have been working very hard to earn their end of term reward to Zone Bowling.
The students have been learning about the ‘Zones of Regulation’, identifying their own emotion and zones they are in at different times of the day. They have also identified some tools they can use when they are in different zones to help them cope with their emotions. We have successfully completed the ‘Peaceful Kids Program’ this term as well. The students have been participating in meditation as a calming down technique after lunch every day.
Students enjoyed participating at CBL, tasted Mexican food and went to the Oriental shops to explore different food items. The students are getting more confident in using public transport and demonstrating appropriate behaviour in public places.
As part of Enterprise, the students made beautiful key holders from recycled material from the environment and are also in the process of making beautiful items from recycled tins for the Pop Up Shop.
Our Values tree is growing day by day as the students are building on their values and virtues. They are learning to demonstrate self-respect, respect for others, show kindness and resilience.
The highlight of this term was the Sports Carnival, the students demonstrated great team spirit and enthusiasm participating in team games. So proud of my ESC 8 students, Keep it up!
I would like to take this opportunity to thank my wonderful team, Ms Mitchell and Ms Patterson for all their hard work and contribution throughout this term. A big shout out to the families for their endless support.
Enjoy the well-deserved break as I look forward to my holidays
Wow, Term 3 has flown by so quickly in ESC 9! The students have been super busy in the classroom learning about lots of different topics – money, mapping, animal threats and description writing. To finish off the end of the term we had SERCUL Tree Planting excursion, SciTech incursion, School Athletics Carnival and Community Based Learning. We are looking forward to an exciting Term 4!

It’s hard to believe that we’re in the last week of Term 3 already! We’ve had a very busy term in ESC 10. We’ve been lucky enough to have two rounds of hatching animals in our class with the ‘U-Can-Hatch-It’ Program. The first time we successfully hatched all 12 chickens. Some of these were re-homed to staff members and we get regular updates. The second time we were excited to receive duck eggs as well as chicken eggs! We have hatched 5 ducks and 3 chickens. All the students were excited to watch their arrivals and track their growth day to day. This has been such a positive opportunity to teach the students about Biological Sciences. We’ve discussed Life Cycles and compared growth rates between species.

Just last week, our ESC 10 crew travelled to Southlands Shopping Centre for the first time using their road safety skills, social skills and functional math skills successfully in the community. We are tremendously proud of the improvement that the students have made and look forward to travelling to Cockburn Gateways in term 4! We have also been keeping up with our Life Skills Program in the off CBL weeks. We have made delicious spaghetti and meatballs recently and it was a hit!

At our Sports Carnival in Week 8, the ESC 10 students participated in track and field events, as well as the tabloid events. It was a great day filled with a lot of smiles and tired faces at the end!
There are too many other moments to mention, so below are some snapshots of the last 5 weeks.

Have a safe and happy break everyone and we will see you in Term 4!
The ESC 10 Crew
Well after a very busy term we have finally made it to the end. Only one more to go! This term the boys have been kept very busy working on our enterprise, which was the Father’s Day aprons. The boys worked hard to complete numerous steps such as delivering and picking up order forms, ironing on the text, constructing the boxes, wrapping it all together, and finally delivering the boxes to each class. I would like to thank all those who bought an apron or contributed, it was a great success and we hope all the dads out there get a lot of use out of them.
This term after a long layoff we have finally been able to get out on CBL. It has been a great success as we have travelled to Bull Creek Shopping Centre, Southlands and Cockburn Gateways. This is definitely a favourite subject of ESC12 and all the boys love to explore different shops and buy their own lunch. We cannot wait to continue going to different places in term 4.
Over the last 7 weeks all students have been travelling to Notre Dame to participate in a sports program. They have met up with a buddy from Notre Dame who is studying Health and Physical Education. The students have worked on their fundamental movement skills and different sports with their buddy. It has been a great chance for everyone to meet and interact with new people in a sporting context. Our Notre Dame buddies also came and helped out at the sports carnival, in which everybody from ESC12 participated in all events and tried their best. Well done boys! It was great to see.
It has been a busy past 10 weeks and everybody deserves a well-earned holiday. I would like to once again thank all of my staff, Janet Bruns, Tanya Payne and Hannah Bregger for their help this term and to all parents and carers for the support they have given us over this time. It is so good that we are able to work together to get the best out of each student.
Jack Drennan ESC 12 Teacher
Wow, term 3 has flown past and after the holidays we are on the home stretch to Christmas.
ESC 11 has had a very productive term with the large number of learning outcomes achieved. From harvesting and planting seeds in the class garden (for the class business enterprise), participating in many science experiments and learning a second language, Auslan. The students have embraced learning Auslan and can now count to twenty, sign the first four months of the year, 10 colours and over twenty words. It is wonderful to have them so engaged in their learning.

Enjoy the holidays
Ange Dinning
It has been a busy and productive term in ESC 13. Students had so many opportunities to practice their transport skills through our CBL program. We have been exploring scenarios of what could go wrong when using public transport. The students wonderfully modelled their strategies and identified who they could ask for help. In Bush Rangers, students have been learning what they can do to reduce their carbon footprint. In our Literacy program, we have been learning to fill in forms correctly and also developing their resumes.
The highlight of the term has certainly been the athletics carnival. It is so wonderful to see everyone for giving it their best at every race.
It is so heartwarming to see our students growing into independent and resilient young adults. Kiara, Kayla and Tarkin for becoming more confident and showing initiative at workplace. Morgan and Jesse for displaying great teamwork at school and at workplace, Eve and Patrick for running a 20 metre race, Jacob for proactively taking part in fitness, Ben for a fabulous start in his independent travel training and to David for passing his Hazard Perception Test. Congratulations to all of you. We are so proud of all of you.
From Ms Parwani, Ms Subramaniam, Mrs Shivers, Mrs Cox and Mrs Chamberlain
Students have enjoyed recommencing CBL this term with fortnightly visits to the Bull Creek Shopping Centre. During each visit, different students are in charge of various tasks such as, hailing the bus, pressing the bell, and locating the safest place to cross the road.
Once inside the centre, students are required to locate the allocated safe spot, find specific items and stay within a budget. Students are also provided with an opportunity to interpret signs to locate the toilets, customer service desks and have begun to check the price of items using the scanner.
When it’s time to purchase recess, students are attempting to place their order independently and tender enough money to pay for their food. Some are beginning to use their bankcards and are practising using an ATM to check their balance, and make PayPass purchases.
Well done everyone for your improved road awareness and independent living skills!

Hi from ESC 15. We have been working on our ASDAN Transport and Money progression when we went out on CBL. We caught the train to Perth to get lunch and ice cream then we walked around the city, it was a good day. It has been an interesting year because a lot happened and there has been alot to get our work finished. We are excited for graduation because it’s a milestone and a new phase in our lives.
We would like to thank Clear Image Skin Clinic Leeming and Naser Haircuts Jandakot for donating wonderful prizes towards our graduation. These prizes will go to one female and one male student to have either their make-up or hair done on the graduation day.
Next term we are excited for the Rottnest camp. We are going to be doing beach games, beach clean-up and a star gazing tour. We are thrilled to get our own dorm. It is going to be fun.
Raymond Rivera:
This term we have been doing lots of different things.
At Notre Dame we have chosen our buddies to do different sports like AFL, tennis, basketball, etc. The other year 9 classes joined us for our sports class.
In Bush Rangers we have learned about the western swamp tortoise. It is also our class totem. Henry and I made a PowerPoint and the rest of the class produced a class book about it. When Mrs Bainbridge talks about the Tortoise she goes into the red zone (elated).
In Art, we learned how to sew. We did this to make our beanbags for our eyes for Peaceful Kids. We all chose different colours of felt (fabric). Ms TJ showed us how to do the “over stitch”.
In Enterprise, we have produced 36 jars of pickles for our Pop-up Shops.

PHYS ED JENELLE HEARD & JENNA ALLOMES
After School Athletics
We wrapped up our after school athletics program in week 7. The program allowed students to train and be prepared for the athletics carnival and also be given the chance to experience different athletics events. Many students had the opportunity to learn and try with a competition Javelin. It was fantastic to see student’s resilience in trying new and difficult skills. Students also practised and had mini competitions in long jump, hurdles, discus and shot put. I would once again like to acknowledge the amazing staff who assisted after school to help run the program.
Javelin competition
On the Thursday before the athletics carnival, we held a Javelin completion at lunch time for selected year 7 and 8 students. Students were given 3 attempts to throw the Javelin the longest distance possible, to get points for their house. Congratulations to the following students who achieved top 4 results
1st Oscar Cuffe-Cain- 20.25m
2nd Jackson Shepherd- 11.74m
3rd Mikail Tanriver- 10.40m
4th Zoe Balcombe & Maddi McAuliffe (too close to decipher with ~10m)
I would also like to acknowledge the following students who were selected in the competition and also awarded house points for their efforts and involvement.
Jake Lewis, Branden McCaw, Toby Vereker, Cameron Crnobrnja, Kenneth Hee, Corey Bill.
House Athletics Carnival
On Friday of week 8 ESC and LSHS held their annual House Athletics Carnival. It was an awesome day and it was brilliant to see all of our students involved in multiple events. We started the day off with ESC participating in leader ball and the bean bag relay in their House groups. After a short break, we then began the running races, where our students ran a massive 100m! It was remarkable to see how much effort, excitement and determination was on display. The crowd thoroughly enjoyed watching and cheering our students on! We then headed out to the basketball courts, where all students participated in tunnel ball, under/over and pass ball. During the day, we collected points from all events. Congratulations to Grady who won this year’s ESC House Carnival with the most points. The House points tally was as followed:
Grady- 185
Findlay- 180
Ramsdale- 145
Aulberry- 136
Congratulations to all students on a very successful day. We would like say massive thank you to all the staff who helped out early in the morning and during the day. Also, an extended thank you to the Notre Dame students who came along during the day to assist. It was a spectacular day and we already can’t wait until next year.
Thanks everyone!
Team Triple J
All senior students have had an amazing term with the workplace program was in swing again this term. Students practised good ongoing hygiene and social distancing practices, to ensure COVID requirements were implemented across industry settings.
We have special mentions to share from the WPL \Ddepartment. These two students have achieved an enormous amount of hours through their senior years in the ADWPL (Authority Developed Workplace Learning) Program, and now through their employment with Activ.

Congratulations to David Baker who has achieved 854 hours of total experience and congratulations to Levi Baker who has achieved a total of 888 hours of experience. Both of these students will have gained over 1000 hours by the time they graduate in November. Awesome, awesome effort by these young men!!
Congratulations to Caitlin Pilkington and Nick Leone who have completed their certificate qualifications in Community Services (Nick) and Horticulture (Caitlin). They have put in a lot of hard work throughout the year, both with their theory and practical placements.

We would like to also wish Nick all the best as he ventures into full time employment with St John of God Hospital after he graduates. He has been part of this team for almost two years now and they are very excited to have him full time very soon!
Eve Morgan has been awarded Employee of the Month at our assembly. Eve has had an amazing term at Alinea in the Plantrite department. Each week Eve has been prepared and ready for work. She has worked with independence as she became familiar with allocated tasks. Eve's productivity at Alinea improved every week.
Her supervisor has been extremely impressed with her work ethic and enthusiasm. Congratulations to Eve!!
We can’t wait to have the year 10s be a part of the program next term.
Workplace Learning program recommences week 1 of term 4.
We wish everybody a restful school holiday break.
Leeming SHS ESC students attended the BikeRescue workshop for 10 sessions in term 3, working in pairs to complete a bike for charity and then one each for themselves. The restoration process takes students through basic hand tool use, stripping the bike parts, cleaning, paint preparation, spray painting, rebuilding, cabling and fine-tuning their ride. Students had to manage their work space and were quickly brought up to scratch by Ashton and Jess, the BikeRescue Mentors. Patience was tested in the shared workspace with tools going missing, components not fitting and some parts breaking, and everyone learned to communicate their problems in more constructive ways. Mentors and teachers were glad to see improvement in taking initiative, problem solving and interpersonal skills for interacting with supervisors, co-workers and potential employers.
It was great to see Nelly and Cris taking on leadership and mentoring roles in helping their peers catch up during the program.
